Submachine Gun Ammo but no gun

I'm on first claire run and am starting to find a lot of that ammo but I don't have the gun. I don't have any regular 9mm ammo for my pistol. I'm at the part "find sherry" after william attacked elevator. Did I pass the gun somehow or have I not got to it yet?

SMG is ridiculously strong in REmake 2. Even without suppressor it deals with bosses as fast as knife.

You need to get the Police Badge, and for that, you need the jewelry box (After you reach Chief Iron's Office, just shortly after Sherry has been kidnapped.) Get the heart key inside Iron's office, exit that office and go downstairs. Open the room with that key and get the box. The ruby is in the second floor room, east side, with the statue, but you need the book at the library, mix it with the arm inside that room and get the staff. Check it and behind will have a button and this will release the Ruby.
Mix both items and you will get the Shield Badge. Check it and behind will have a button, press it and it will turn into a USB key. With that USB go to the S.T.A.R.S. office and insert into the PC, access the PC keyboard and the room will be unlocked, letting you reach the Sub machine gun.
You almost reach the point where you can get both items.

Yep, the SMG is by far the best weapon in this game. I would almost hazard to use that rather overused word for it: "OP". Especially with the amount of ammo you can craft for it if you decide to not go for acid grenade rounds.

If you played Leon, then getting it is easy, it is at the same spot as his magnum was. You also get it the same way. (Also, its weapon mods are also at the same spots.)
