Learn the route.
Always keep on moving.
Do not sidetrack or hoard items to the box.
Forget the amoury bonus pouch, only get the one from the west office safe.
Always keep on moving.
Keep your weapon loadout small.
Learn the knife tactics against the bosses.
Always keep on moving.
Learn to use grenades effectively, especially flashes. You can run past many enemies with them.
Forget the magnum and the SMG, takes too long to get or takes too much room.
Save before G2 and G3, then at your most problematic spot (dogs, G-Adults, ivies, whichever gives you troubles).
Always keep on moving.
Have a cheat sheet ready with the mandatory combinations if you didn't memorise them yet.

You can use the infinite handgun to get S rank on hardcore if you want to unlock the infinite machine gun, but as you already know, infinite weapons save for the knife will disqualify you for S+.

1. Learn the route. You can get all 3 medals and be at G1 in less than 30 minutes (I'm usually at 25ish).
2. Knife G1. Be aggressive. He goes down with 2 knives and 1 hand grenade (generously provided immediately before and during the fight). He's usually down for me by 32-33 minutes. (I play at 60 FPS on PS4; cheese is unnecessary).
3. It's perfectly doable to get both the magnum/SMG and the locker room hip pouch whil S+ing. So, for Leon A, I grab the portable safe when I first reach it, and later make my first save at the Boiler room (after G1). I sprint to the club door to pick up the second safe (Leon B) or the box with the STARS badge (Leon A). I then head to the last diamond door, where I get the second safe. At this point, I'm normally around 44-47 minutes. I check my time, and try to solve both safes. If I can do both within 2 minutes, I continue. If it takes longer, I reload my save (it takes like 3 minutes to hit the club door and run to the diamond door—the longest part is waiting for Mr. X after he lifts the helicopter. Sometimes I shoot him to get him to run at me). Anyway, from the diamond room, I hit the STARS office to get the Magnum/SMG, then run to the darkroom to pick up the big gear. I then head to the locker room, get the hip pouch (and whatever else I've missed), and head to the heart/club door (you'll have 4 inventory slots open at least, since you've used both spare keys and picked up a hip pouch). Run from there to the clocktower. Just bring flashbangs for the licker/Mr. X and you're fine. The whole detour takes a grand total of 7-10 minutes, which is more than enough to spare for an S+ run.
4. Sewers are completable in 15 minutes. Learn how to get past the G-Adults. Flamethrower will make them panic. I'm usually at G2 by 1:30, for reference. That leaves me a full hour for the lab, and that's actually doable in 20 minutes-ish—the long part is getting the codes, but you don't have to do that if you have them handy.

I usually finish the game around 1:50-2:10, either A or B. I save in the Boiler Room/Irons's Office, before getting the flamethrower and chess pieces (G-Adults can screw up a run), and before G3.

That's what I found yesterday, watched all of them, gonna give it a try later.
Just watch all of them (he explains each part really well), then you are good to go I guess.

I ended second runs w/o guides as Claire and Leon in less than 3h on normal with picking up every possible thing on the map, shouldn't be that hard without it.

1. You can get S rank with infinite weapons, but not S+.
2. This might sound a bit disheartening but for me the 3 save points I did on Hardcore: 1. Sewers just before G2, 2. Lab just before G3 and 3. Just before the last boss. You will need to get risky at some point, cause if you save at the start of Sewers than you will need to risk doing G3 and G4 without saving. Just practice, watch a few speedrun videos to pick up a few tricks and a general route you need to take.
3. There is no pressure, if you get to your save and fail a boss fight quit to the menu and load up from there, otherwise the game will continue counting it as one run from the load.
4. Learning to use the knives are key on doing it fast on bosses
5. Have a little note with puzzle solutions handy if you did not memorize them already.

if your goal is to unlock the special unlimited ammo weapons, do A.
B doesn't have the box in the lobby, which is a life safer in case of snafus.
also, A is easier for both characters.

other tips.

Clear the library.

Learn how to beat G1, properly and fast.
That guy loves bullets on hardcore.

Reload the save if you feel you could have done better.

if you die, go back to the title screen and reload: if you pick "Continue", time will be added.

Windows and wooden boards: you only need to close 3 windows, maybe 4: 1 near the saferoom at 1F east of RPD, 1 where the jewel box is, and the last one is the first the game allows you to close, next to the dark room. the good news is , you'll find wooden boards near most of those windows anyway. yay!

Memorize the safe and locker codes. 6 2 11, 9 15 7, NED, MRG, CAP, DCM, SZF.

Memorize the milestone events and bring the necessary tools with you.
For example: in Claire A, after you meet Leon, you will find a flash grenade (the first one you'll see in the game) on a table, east 1F office, where the valve handle for the shower room is. well, that flash grenade you're gonna need it while traversing the west hallway, on the way to the C4 timer, since it's gonna be full of zombies by then due to the fact that all the windows will be open.

Plan your routes with objectives in mind. if you do things right, you're not gonna enter the same room more than twice per objective.

Grab all the weapons and ammo but leave the numbered lockers alone (those with the digit keyboard). you won't need those. same goes for the portable safes. scrap those.

Depending on how good you're doing, you might not need to grab all the erbs you find.

Don't bother with films and the treasures. you won't need those.

and I don't think you 'll need the special weapon expansion -- the one in the safe you can open with the the RPD dongle -- either. Claire's especially is kinda crap.

Never craft 9mm bullets. that's a waste of gunpowder.

Saves:
-before G2
-before G3
-before the final boss.

OR, if you lack confidence

-before you go for the King and Queen chesspieces
-greenhouse (I mean ehi those plants mean instant-kill after all)
-before the final boss

Surprised at the few suggestions to stave off on saving for the first time until like the beginning of the sewers or before G2.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I get the sentiment. If you're familiar and comfortable enough for it, I get it. Otherwise, I feel that's too far into the game IMO for someone who is asking for help for their first time. For first timers, I'd stick to the typical advice of first save before or after G1, second save before G2, third save before G3. It spaces them apart more evenly time-wise so you never lose too much progress. That's how I did it my first time, and after your first run you get a feel of where you can space apart saves more (such as skipping before or after G1) and using it at a more potentially problematic spot for your second run. It's just not worth it to wait until that far in for first time attempts just you can have an extra save to spare between G3 and G4 when that's all there is between G3 and the end of the game (and it's the shortest segment by far).

Only other two things I'll add is that I only ever board up the window in the hallway by the stairs outside the save room and no others (at least for A runs, haven't done B yet; I might do the one near watchman's room there), and I never cleared the library on my Hardcore S+ attempts. Only zombie I ever dealt with in there was the female one that is standing already. Shoot her in the leg a few times to blow it off, then knife her. The one near the door leading to the main hall won't ever get up if you stay far enough from him while running through the door, and the same applies for the one near the book case you need to move. If your first entry to the library is from 3rd floor and you descend the ladder though, I believe this triggers him?

G1 is not even the quarter point of the run, it is closer to mark the one-fifth progress. This is why nobody ever recommends saving there. Plus he is one of the easiest bosses in history, probably the easiest boss in the RE franchise in general.

using the first save right before G2 or the queen+king piece is pretty reasonable, and here's why:

- G3 and last boss need a save each. I wouldn't recommend using the 3rd save at G3 to someone who's yet to attempt S+ -- someone who's not "youtuber" level of bad at the game
- Lab 1 is literally a speedrun and everything before the sewers is also extremely easy.
- let's say you die in Lab 1 or Greenhouse, you'll get a chance to improve your performance against the mini G1s or G2, while avoiding the mundane part of the sewers in the process.

it's cost effective, prevents SNAFUs and saves time.
3 flame rounds less for Claire won't make much of a difference (there's plenty around and you need acid rounds to beat the game) and Leon can craft shotgun shells anyway .

the problem is, those who save at before G1 because "confidence", will most likely save at G2 too for the same reason, just to have only 1 save and a relevant chunk of gameplay left.

learn RPD first, then attempt S+.

I don't see the problem with having only one save left. That last save would go right before G3
given they make it. we're talking about tips for beginners, aren't we

Use infinite knife with high fps.
Watch some speedrun on youtube or twitch.

Everyone is going to have their own level of comfort and familiarity. Personally, because I felt comfortable with the RPD sections, for my first attempts with Claire I was going to save when I first got to the sewers, save again right before G2, and save before G3. This was where I decided to make my saves because I was least comfortable handling the G Adults on the way to the King and Queen plugs, though the entire sewer section shouldn't take more than 15 minutes I had two saves there. Now I tend to space them out a bit more, choosing to save after returning to the RPD from the basement, before G2, and before G3. I have found this to be my current balance of comfort to potential time loss.
