Are survival horror games supposed to be this boring?
5-7/10 i would give it. Had more fun with RE4 which i barely played because it was so boring to me. Basically the whole RE franchise is boring to me. Doesn't really scare me too. I should also mention i got this game for a dollar. Leave a reply if you found it boring and unscary as well :p. Leave a reply if your triggered.

Traditional Surivial horror games usually are of a slower pace like this. Re4 is an action game. If you arent a fan of horror you wont't like RE.

The "true" serie was more about exploration, backtracking, resource management and survive. That later changed from and after Resident Evil 4...

Resident Evil 4 is an action game that tries to have puzzling and some exploration (and seem to do good at puzzling).
RE5 and RE6 are random zombie shooters L4D style with the name Resident Evil (but L4D 1 and 2 are better than RE5 and 6).

RE is more about you exploring, going back and forth through the areas and finding things, puzzles, understanding and solving them while you try to survive (and a more true experience of how the RE series started you will get plaing at the hardest difficulty where you have less ammo and really have to take care of what you kill, how and take car of your HP and health items where 1 enemy when you are almost out of ammo and no medikits could be a serious problem to you.

A game genre dont need to appeal to everyone to be good.

We can't all have good tastes.
Pro tip: Play with the lights off and headphones on next time.

This game isn't particularly scary and can be stale but many still enjoy it. Personally, I definitely prefer 4 over it though 4 isn't perfect, either.

One problem with your post is you didn't describe what you were hoping for or disliked.

Are you looking for a scary game? If so perhaps Alien Isolation, Amnesia, Fatal Frame, or Silent Hill might be more your taste.

Are you looking for heavy gameplay? State of Decay 1 & 2 might be what you are looking for.

Do you want a more immersive and harder game with a mix of action and consequence? ZombiU. You might also like the original Dead Rising. Dying Light can be appealing, too, if you don't intentionally try to become OP otherwise it can be very boring.

Perhaps this isn't a genre that appeals to you.

Why would he? The survival horror genre, at least the old recipe, was slow. Alone in the Dark had 90% running around, 9% running from monsters, and 1% boss fights. The old RE1 had more exploration and trying to put random objects into random slots than meeting any enemies. The genre, by default, is a mix of puzzles, exploration, inventory management, and combat, so when the action bits are delegated to a single element in a mix instead of being the main focus (almost all RE sidegames and the core series from RE4 to RE6), the game will seem slow or boring for those who are used to playing action games only.

RE1 did not have "random objects into random slots" because everything had a sort of clue, visual or through notes, nothing was "random" and just required to collect the objects and pay attention to everything at the areas to know where to use what (still some puzzles had an order of usse for the objects but still the game gave you clues for that too, but you also need to collect notes or pay attention to the environment).

If you came here looking for actual horror you're not going to find it. You're probably better off playing Amnesia or Alien Isolation or something. As for RE, RE7 might appeal to you.

I mean, it's horror action. If all you want is horror, go play Alien: Isolation, DreadOut, Outlast, Layers of Fear, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, etc.

The main reason I enjoy them, is because even though it's not the best, I do enjoy the horror story elements these games present. It's also why I like Silent Hill, The Evil Within, Dead Space and so on. I've never been scared or nervous with these games. They're just fun (Imo) for what they are.

All that said, all least you're willing to give them a try and not just outright hate them.

What, in your opinion, is a game that qualifies as scary and not boring?
Fear dot Com Oct 29, 2020 @ 2:32am
It's perfectly fine. Just because a game is popular doesn't mean everyone is expected to like it (just like there are people who don't like GTA, Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty, etc). Everyone's got different tastes.

and 5-7/10 i would give to this bait... doesn't really get, in general too

Dead Space, & Evil Within, are pretty top notch in terms of horror, RE6 at least Leon's part holds up well enough horror wise but other than that RE series is a bit weak RE1 & 0 are likely the best horror wise if your brand new, RE4 can be at points but its quite stale most of the time, luckily action fills those parts up & thats true for most of the titles I mentioned.

Well, in his case, I would stick to Dead Space and Evil Within, he seem to be the kind of think "scary" is something that jumps out at you from a dark spot or something like that.
Still, I think he would find even Dead Space to be boring as it is not a gallery shooter either like Halo or CoD where you fire at several enemies on screem from a stand position (what can, in parts, be done at RE4, RE5 and RE6), so none of these games would be the combination of scary + fun (or not boring) for him.

I forget RE-REV2 was pretty decent as an RE game exception Horror Wise.
