Mr X has obliterated my experience.
I usually don't play these kinds of games but I got hooked on this one recently because of the RE3 Demo. I was 5.5 hours into this game before I started over, due to burning all ammunition on Mr X and just not really understanding how the game worked. I got all the way back to Mr X on my second play through and started learning how to avoid him. He was absolutely terrifying the first 50 times I ran into him. But on my second attempt at the game, I completed the clock tower part and he comes straight for me. No matter what room I'm in or how far I go. Directly to me every single time. It's made the game literally unplayable. What was looking like one of the best games I've played in years, has turned into very bad design (in my opinion.) I'm not exaggerating either. Straight to me immediately. I've hit escape and reloaded the save so many times trying to figure out what's happening and it's like the game is just broken. Is he supposed to b-line straight to me over and over and over again? Does completing the clock tower trigger something that I'm not aware of? What a terrible experience. I was sooooo into this game and it just murdered it.

If you understand how Tyrant works, you can better deal with him.

Here's his behavior.

He is spawned in during certain trigger sequences, is a pursuer type enemy that can not be killed, and remains patrolling the R.P.D. for you until you pass a certain point.

You can temporarily stop him via multiple means, including draining his HP below a certain threshold (this is not worth the resources it takes) which will down him to one knee for about 30 seconds, or using a grenade of either type (this is sometimes worth it) to stun him for a few seconds.

Otherwise, you can just run away from him. You literally outrun him and he can not catch you (at least at full health and as Claire at Caution since she runs FASTER this way). He, alone, is nearly zero threat. He is only a potential threat when blocking your path (almost always another way to your objective so at worst he is a time hamper) or when other enemies are around.

There will be telling music that plays when he is "after you". This means he is in "active pursuit" mode of you and KNOWS where you are.

If he is NOT in active pursuit, he will proceed to wander randomly to search for you. The room you are in and adjacent rooms are "loaded". If he is in a room that is, you will hear footsteps to signify he is nearby, and he walks normally.

If he is BEYOND that point (as in, far away), you will NOT hear him, but he moves many times faster while searching, so he will never stay away for long.

Noise tips him off, namely gun shots. Running, and running through/slamming doors, can tip him off if he is nearby, perhaps at all (Capcom says that if he is lost from the player for too long that he gets more tools to find the player so I'm not sure of the specifics). The sound of a zombie groaning if it sees you has been theorized to tip him off. This may be an example.

He does NOT teleport in the sense that most players think of, outside of some like one scripted sequences, and no, the jack handle is not it. He DOES however immediately become aware of the players' location (set to "active pursuit mode") regardless of where he is once you enter that room. I guess Capcom wanted you to have to deal with him while doing the book shelves in the library.

The clock tower room is has no such trigger. If you really loaded a save 50 times, even if he is aware of you at the time of loading, that's some bad luck that you haven't been able to progress without losing him. As someone said, you have two paths to take to get to the basement. Once you reach that room, he is gone from freely paroling for you.

He can't enter these rooms; S.T.A.R.S. office, dark room save room, watchman's room (including the hallway beyond it and the break room save room beyond that), interrogation room, observation room, chief Irons' office (including the mini hallway, attached room beyond it, and secret entrance leading to the elevator), the secret room off of the main hall, and boiler room. Miiiight be forgetting one or two. Some rooms he is oft theorized to be unable to go into, but CAN go into, include the "small rooms with only one exist and no way to dodge him" which include the linen closet, bathroom, small storage room off the East wing hallway, and small storage room off the large storage room on the 3F East side.

Long post but hope it helps, and here's a page (may have spoilers) and video of his behind the scenes workings.

Are you sure you lost him? If you can still hear his chase music then he will chase after you but there's also a few factors that can draw him to your position once you do lose him the main one being noise like gunfire and slamming open doors, you need to treat Mr.X like a Licker if he doesn't know where you are because the moment you make noise he will come to you.

There are certain points in the Mr. X section where he teleports to you. The clock tower is one, I'm pretty sure, and the crank in the evidence room is absolutely one.

I disagree on the clock tower because I've done that puzzle numerous times and Mr.X doesn't immediately go there once its finished especially since he's not allowed in that room compared to the evidence room which he is allowed in so him bee lining it for that room once you pickup that item makes sense from a tension point of view as you can hear his music before you see him.

Mr. X will look for you in almost every room of the RPD, save for a few:
- Clock Tower
- Save Rooms (Dark Room, Boiler, Break Room, Secret Room)
- Interrogation/Observation Room
- STARS Office

What you have to understand is that Mr.X will react to sound. If you keep running around and slamming doors or shooting enemies, Mr. X will stop looking wherever he was, and go straight to the source of that sound. That doesn't mean he already saw you. If you can hide before he comes into sighting distance of you, he'll look around for a while and then go look somewhere else. The main problem is probably that you're running everywhere. If you're just exploring and free of (most) enemies, it's better to just walk instead of running. Running is for when you already know what to do.

If you really need to keep running everywhere, then just do this. Run to a safe room (one of the above) and stay inside (door closed) until you can't hear his footsteps anymore. Then exit the room and decide quickly where you want to go.

Even so, there are times when his appearance is scripted. The game will despawn the "detective" Mr. X and spawn a scripted Mr.X that appears right in front of you. Such cases are:
- getting the Jack from the Records Room (he'll go straight there)
- if you go to the Interrogation Room and grab all the items in both rooms, AND Mr.X wasn't following you, he'll break the wall of the Press Room when you pass in front of it

I think there's another factor that plays into that because I would perform those conditions multiple times and he wouldn't break the wall but it seems that if he's in the east office area then he breaks the wall when those other conditions are met.

you need to get to the basement from the clock tower
there are two paths you can take, either forward through the east attic, or left back through the library
Tyrant cannot block both of them at the same time
so what does it matter that he is almost always in main hall 3F when you leave the clock tower?

You need to look at Mr X's involvement from a different perspective. Umbrella is trying to cover it's tracks. There are witnesses to the tvirus outbreak, the police are very capable and are both willing and smart enough to listen to anyone who is willing to come foreward and collect the kind of evidence that could bring Umbrella down. As such, Mr X was sent in order to permanently silence anyone who could testify against ☂️ as well as destroy any material that could link them to their experiments. You must remember they are extremists and extremists stop at nothing to protect themselves. Hence the reason for why Mr X is part of the game and why Leon, Ada and Claire, are on his hitlist.

He`s not hard. All you have to do is run away from him. He is slower than you.

Could try "X no more" mod
DeadPhoenix Mar 29, 2020 @ 6:21am
Mr X is a joke LMAO :P You can easily bait him into an attack and run past him. Or just use a flash grenade to stun him briefly.
Revalopod Mar 29, 2020 @ 6:52am
Mr X doesn't go into the clock tower at all.

So many great replies. Thank you so much guys. He seems to have REALLY ramped up for some reason. I could loose him fairly easy before but now for instance, I was waiting in the clock tower for him to leave so I could make a run for it and it took slightly over 10 minutes for him to get far enough away. I'd crack the door, watch him go back into the library, I'd slowly creep out and take 7 or 8 steps in that direction and BOOM! He'd bust the library door back open and b-line at me. I'd turn around and run back into the clock tower and wait again. Then the same thing would happen all over again. I made it to the bottom floor and saved but now he's doing the same thing. He busts the library door open and comes straight at me. Doesn't matter which corner of the main hall I'm in. I've hid in several different places to test it but he never hesitates to come directly to me. Like he's using walls hacks. I'm totally helpless to get anything at all done. I just keep reloading my save over and over trying to catch a lucky break. I hope I progress in some way before I give up and start playing something else. I really like this game. I'm going to figure it out dang it. Thank you guys so much for the help. I'll come in here dancing like a school girl if I ever get him off my back.

Mr X doesn't follow you when you walk. Also use a flash grenade to stun him.

lol. I just tried again a few times. I walked several rooms over all the way to a bathroom. I walked the whole way there. I went into the bathroom and hid in the last stall. He came straight to me. No matter where I go, he knows where I'm at and that's directly where he goes. Makes no difference at all. Walk, run, doesn't matter. So ****ing annoying.
