Not enough ammo for the machinery room boss?
Playing hardcore Leon story mode, stuck trying to get past the first boss in machinery room.

I wasted most of my ammo shortly before leaving the police station so I am walking into the machinery room with only flash and frag grenade, 4 pistol round and 3 shotgun rounds.

Even with the additional frag grenade and pistol rounds in the machinery room I simply don't seem to have enough ammo to kill the boss.

When he is in the normal form I shoot his head once and wait for him to revert back to showing his eye (he doesn't seem to revert back unless I shoot his head once no matter how long I wait). I patiently kite and unload my ammo into his eye, but I eventually run out of ammo before he dies. His eye turns reddish-orange, but nothing else.

Do I have to reload my police station save, and come back with more ammo, or am I doing this bossfight wrong?

Shank the ♥♥♥♥♥ while he's transforming at the start.

Shoot the head or the exposed eye, they take a quarter more damage.
Otherwise the ammo there is enough to dispatch G1 even if you arrive there with zero bullets left. All boss arenas have enough ammo to dispatch them on the highest difficulty.
Alternatively, get back and get a knife, if you can. You can skin off over 1000 HP (from 5000) on standard 60 fps; even more if you are on 100+ fps.

G1 gets utterly destroyed by using two full knives.

Not as bad as lickers though. They only live for a couple seconds.

It took me 47 seconds to beat G1 on hardcore with 2 knives, so yes, just like Crowbaria said, knife the ♥♥♥♥ out of him.

So considering 3 out of 4 answers have been "Just knife the guy" I'm going to say I understand and feel your pain. For where he is in the game, G1 is a ridiculous damage sponge and takes a lot of ammo if you fight him with regular weapons as was probably intended.

It's even worse if you use the shotgun

Leon is kinda screwed there, yes. G1 has the biggest damage reduction against the shotgun in the game and the Matilda is also subpar. Claire has easier time with a direct grenade hit if you do not have any knives left.

Try to use focus shots and shot head or eye when possible.

Focus shot + head/eye shot = 75% damage increase.

Use the grenade you got downstairs right before the fight, and the one in the same boss room.

Best strat is to knife him right from the very beguinning, and equip the first greande right before his grab animation. Then go for the next grenade and repeat. After that, a few focus shot will finish him.

No need to use shotgun at all unless you run out of ammo due to bad aiming.

BTW, grab animation grenade throw inflicts same damage as throwing it without being grabbed.

Valuable info - I was always wondering about this. Btw I read/heard somewhere that defensive knife does no damage to the enemy at all.

Knife defensive animation inflicts 100 hp damage, if im not wrong.

Okay I did a quick google search after reading your comment, and I just learned that the bullets do more damage if I aim longer. I've been quickscope/flicking the whole time. No wonder why I was frustrated with how bullet spongy the zombies are. I'll try charging up my shots more.

100 base damage on rank 5, affected by DA, so 70 on hardcore.
Except if G1 is in the last phase, then it does zero damage for some reason.

It is boss-specific though. On normal enemies, the grenade does 70-100% damage, but to the one enemy as it has a zero hit radius. Flashbang has a radius, but severely reduced.

Long story short, use flashbangs as defensive items or a knife you are wiling to let go.

Yep, a whooping 50% more!

This is very noticiable with .45 guns, specially Claire one (Quickdraw revolver). Due to it rapid fire, if you are not careful you will waste a lot of ammo because only the first shot will be focused.

If you shoot only one bullet a time, waiting until the reticle is focused, zombies die very very fast even in highest tier hardcore.

Reduce all graphic quality to minimum, than knife him, if you dont have knifes, start new game.

Nah I got through pretty easily. The issue was that I did not know focus shot damage bonus was a thing and kept quickscoping.

Maybe what I heard was actually G1-related in the first place and I mistakenly generalized from that. Anyway, the radius info is also very valuable as it puts things into context.

Anyway, what I was mainly asking myself all the time was if I use the frag grenade on G1, but he grabs me before I can actually do it.
nade desxription is very missleading in that regard.
