Spark shot (stun gun) FPS drops
Whenever I shot any enemy with a Spark shot my framerate drops like crazy, It freezes every couple frames while I'm trying to build up charge.
Game runs smooth as butter, this gun is the only problem. This issue makes this gun pretty much impossible to use. Any fix?

Is it the same if you have shadow cache on or off?

yep, I also tried lowering some other graphics settings, problem still remains
also I noticed that freeze happens exactly when bright muzzle flash effect appear on the barrel tip

Honestly I thought this was an intended 'feature' and part of the gun effects, making the enemy and action all around jittery from the shock and all that.
It's also why I never use the damn gun and find the rest of Claire's arsenal more than adequate.

This happens to me too. Maybe it's intended? didn't pay too much attention to the framerate because that stutter while you are electrocuting something actually makes it more exciting and makes the gun feel more powerful. It would be great if it gets fixed.

Is it really a fps drop or is it just a visual scenery?

It doesn't happen on consoles, so it's clearly a bug. Watch some pc footage on youtube. You will find it in every video.

Watch at 60fps and focus on claire's movement when he overloads the taser:

Set particle effects to low and you won't see as brutal frame drops. The gun generates a ton of particles, DirectX always had issues with effects like that.

setting particle effects to low doesn't help at all

and it's definitely not a visual scenery
also in my case stuttering is much worse than in video Biebs posted

It might actually be the other way around.
That FPS tank when effects are on low.

I just beat the game for my 9th time or something. XP I played as claire 4 times.
I beat everything basically and am now replaying everything to get awesome times.

For that I lowered my settings so I can play at almost 200 FPS most of the time.
And now on my 9th playthrough I had these frame drops with the spark shot for the first time.

We know the knifes damage is somehow tied to FPS, so the more FPS you have the higher is the damage somehow.

It could very well be that the sparks and effects with the spark shot are FPS based too.
Maybe it creates particels and effects every xth frame.
Try to limit the FPS and see if it's fixed.

That would make sense.
The consoles all have limited FPS.

@grasmann

I limited my fps to 60 from the start and have my vsync on, I have no problem with that in single player games at all

but I experimented with that settings and it didn't had any impact on Spark shot stuttering, I even went to nvidia control and played around with some settings there

also I have 6gb video card and problem is still there no matter if texture quality is in white, orange or red zone

here's how it looks on my end:

I noticed that when I shot and move then with every stutter her hair kinda twitching, so maybe it's some physics bug or something

Well the physics need to be updated every frame.
The physics calculations might run on a different thread calculating nonstop and then the game matches bone placements to the simulation objects.
That's not uncommon.
So if your FPS are tanking that process is skipping frames basically.

@grasmann
yup, frame rate goes from 60 to 31-33 according to nvidia overlay, but it feels like it jumps from 60 to 0
so any suggestions on possible fix? or should I wait and play Leon until they release a patch

So, particle lighting quality doesn't change anything?
FPS limit doesn't change anything?
Then I really don't know. XP
I'm wondering myself why I haven't had that issue before.
