Why you call Tyrant as Mr.X?
I never played original and those PS1 RE games....but I think in RE2 Remake he is called as Tyrant....so just curious why he is called as Mr.X

Must agree there, in my head he is always "The tyrant".
But it is because in the original RE2 game the tyrants name given by Umbrella is "Mr X".
There are documents you can pickup and read in the old RE2 saying as such.

I've heard it's a name that stuck from something else. An RE2 novel or manga perhaps.

I thought it was because it was a name the community gave him.

I could be wrong guys, I am open to correction.

From what I recall he has never been referred to as Mr. X in any direct source from capcom.
(Until the Remake: https://twitter.com/re_games/status/1070289994152062976?s=21)

One theory is the name actually originated with an action figure; which was so named because the distributor didn't get an answer from capcom either.

This particular toy says Tyrant/Mr. X, likely because it has his transformed hands as accessories but there also some which just say Mr. X.

Easier to discern.

When you say Tyrant the first thing I think about is RE1 final boss.
Mr.X is also a tyrant. And so is Nemesis.

It's like calling lickers 'mutants', doesn't help with specifics)

If I remember well. Fans dubbed him Mr.X because he looks bland. Like a nobody. Without identity.

Think a bit like Hitman where the guy looks so generic he can disguise into about anything and it works.

Agent 47 has his own identity and why he's remembered! Sorry but that comparison is rather stupid to compare a literal genetic enhanced assassin to that of a virus enhanced tyrant.
Bansheebutt Dec 20, 2019 @ 10:50am
Nah, it's literally part of 47's lore that he was genetically tuned to be physically passable as Russian, English, or Asian.

It was a fan name since the original game did not name the enemy in any material. It was transferred to both the initial toy lines and the semi-official novelisation. It kinda got stuck, especially after some old fans called it Mr. X on reddit, and the newcomers assumed it was its actual in-game name.

Some people think that the Tyrant only refers to the boss of RE1, even though it is just the name of the virus and the series of artificially crafted bioweapons. I prefer calling it the Tyrant here as well, or the T-103 unit. (Although official material confirms that its serial number is actually T-00.)
Lanzagranadas Dec 20, 2019 @ 11:56am
What official material calls him 'T-00'? Film C from RE2 and other sources say his model is T-103. Tyrant from RE1 is T-002, and Proto-Tyrant from RE0 is effectively the 001.

Anyway, it's not like we call most BOWs for their scientific names. "Zombies" for example is supposedly just a made up name.

Like a nobody? Duude it's Dolph Lundgren!

I thought for sure this came from an old games magazine - EGM I think - showing the character and asking in the caption "who is this Mr. X?"

Heh...in some german game magazines he was called "Golem". Found it weird at first but its kinda fitting to him and his behavior.
