USB's in 1998?
Since when
They came out 2000 and even then it was like high end tech (128MB Flash Drives anyone)
Not 1998

Gonna have a fun little necro here and say that reading this thread almost a year later, the much more concerning issue is all the, I assume at least, 12-year-olds in this thread assuming "USB" just means "USB drive" or "USB dongle," and Googling "when USB was invented."

USB is the port/connector, not the drive/dongle itself, for anyone else stumbling upon this thread in the future. You don't plug in a "USB," you plug in a USB drive, or dongle, or whatever else you might have.

Aside from that, very predictable thread with morons chiming in on how you should never think about or have discussions about anachronisms in games because then you're "not fun at parties," repeating that ancient ass line definitely means you're gonna be the party window licker, so there's that at least.

Remember folks, having a fun laugh and chat about weird, out-of-place stuff in games is fine. You don't have to be the party pooper and tell everyone to turn off their brains just because you never turned yours on.

It's not Umbrella though it's in the RPD. They just goofed. Now it's canon in the RE verse they invented USB's earlier lol.

lol yeah me and my friend was just talking about this. it should be a floppy disc.
"The very first USB flash drive that was created was an 8MB version that was known as the 16 megabyte “disgo”. Dov Moran, CEO and president of M-System Flash Pioneers invented the very first flash drive in 1998."

The only problem I have with this game so far is the fact that it doesn't feel like the story is set in the 90s but more like 2005-06ish or something like that..

Umbrella has many key officials in the RPD under their employment. The RPD pretty much works for Umbrella.

USB 1.x

Released in January 1996, USB 1.0 specified data rates of 1.5 Mbit/s (Low Bandwidth or Low Speed) and 12 Mbit/s (Full Speed).[21] It did not allow for extension cables or pass-through monitors, due to timing and power limitations. Few USB devices made it to the market until USB 1.1 was released in August 1998. USB 1.1 was the earliest revision that was widely adopted and led to what Microsoft designated the "Legacy-free PC".[12][13][14][15]

Neither USB 1.0 nor 1.1 specified a design for any connector smaller than the standard type A or type B. Though many designs for a miniaturised type B connector appeared on many peripherals, conformity to the USB 1.x standard was hampered by treating peripherals that had miniature connectors as though they had a tethered connection (that is: no plug or receptacle at the peripheral end). There was no known miniature type A connector until USB 2.0 (revision 1.01) introduced one.

Bleeding edge but possible.
