How does anyone play this on a Gamepad/Xbox controller?
The default gamepad/Xbox controls are really clunky, but that's just the 1st issue. The enemies and their projectiles seem to connect too well. This makes using a gamepad challenging because it's much harder to precisely aim at enemies and deal with someone pursuing you, etc.. I expect using a mouse makes this more of a skill/reaction issue, but the control stick is really hard to use and aim with, and what's worse there's this weird thing where the control stick "bounces" back to where you had it before. It's not a problem with my controller, I play dozens of other PC games with a gamepad and they work quite well! It's just this game, the controls frankly are not good for a gamepad in my opinion.

How do people set up their Xbox controller for this game? Any mods or handicaps that could help alleviate using a gamepad (which I think is a major handicap for this game).

Are the devs aware of how it's harder to use a gamepad when the enemies are practically aimbots?

Are you using Steam Input or is it bypassed? If it is bypassed, try running your controller through it and adding dead zones. If it's enabled and dead zones don't help, try bypassing it.

Personally I use a Steam controller but I have it configured with mouse and keyboard binds.

Edit: Just tested with my Steam Controller conifgured as a gamepad and the right stick is solid with no bouncing so would suspect deadzones just need tweaking.

Another edit: Also just tested with my very old and worn 360 controller and it shows all the signs of needing deadzone increased like twitching and bouncing.

Mouse is better to aim, more news at 8h.
Most likely, yes, there is awareness that a gamepad is comparitively garbage.

Tried it on Steam Deck, and it's an exercise in frustration, in an already frustrating game whose design philosophy is to give you the finger every time you turn a corner.

Just don't do it.

Of course, but to make an accessible game you don't give the middle finger to people who can't use Mouse (due to physical issues or otherwise). So most games usually provide some handicap or way to make up for this.

Unfortunately I don't have the choice due to my disability. Keyboard/mouse don't work, and gamepad is how I play all my PC games.

I hope the devs would reconsider and make their game more ergonomic/gamepad friendly, because it's an accessibility issue, and anyone should be able to enjoy a single player non-competitive game.
Might I suggest then just grabbing a mod that gives you aim perks or spells for free?

Or choosing spells that specifically don't require aim to reliably hit. Some spells you can get early on have inherent homing without risk to yourself when used. ( At least, in as much as anything in Noita is "Safe").

For what it's worth, that IS generally what most endgame wands become anyway. You're not losing out on anything of value given your circumstances.

You'd still need to manually aim things for mobility and digging, but for the most part those don't require extreme precision in the heat of the moment like combat.
If you can use both input devices simultaneously, just left hand the controller while right handing the mouse. This isn't as dirty as it sounds.
