Why do I get punished when a worm digs itself into Holy Mountain?
This is my biggest problem with the game currently. It's quite frustrating when you're having a good early game, but then all of a sudden "gods get angered" for no reason. Later you learn that a worm dug it's way into Holy Mountain and now you're getting blasted by Skeletor while trying to get your next perk.

So my question is, why am I as the player getting punished for this? If a worm digs itself somewhere across the map, it has nothing to do with me. This is a bug or development oversight, surely.

It is quite difficult for the game to tell who destroyed a part of terrain so Steve the Skeleton just assumes it was you. The worm crystal in the HM repells worms from it most of the time, but it is not always reliable and can be destroyed.
think of skeletor as the annoyed landlord checking wth just messed with his house, just to see you walking in. can't blame him, can you?

Well he shouldn't just assume that it's me, if I'm not even in the vicinity. There must be a way to code in a feature which detects the ID# of the enemy which was inside HM radius as it was broken, then sends Steve after it. It would be a nice change for once to see Steve-O attacking something else than you. :) Just my two cents

@Hobson

I'm not sure how much game time you have, but after they made the change and added the worm crystals...it honestly became pretty rare for it to happen.

Some explanations may have to do with a worm pheromone flask breaking and spilling..covering NPCs. Once worms are introduced into your game..they're usually going to be around until the game is over.

Once they start moving and living their wormlife..even the worm crystals are only a guideline for them. Their movement obeys the same gravity and momentum rules of the Noita universe as you, and once they've started trucking it..it's kind of like trying to make a train that's moving at full speed NOT pass through a paper barrier with the word "STOP" on it.

You also have to remember that this game world DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. It's part of the games beauty.

Still happens but not with worms, in the jungle levels there is some sort of gigantic spider that digs throughmaterials

They tend to stand still until you get close to the jungle though. The game only loads areas in that you're 'close' to.

You're right. That does happen too.

Actually is isn't that annoying to deal with anyway, it's not a big deal.
Like most bad guys, there is plenty of ways to deal with them depending of the item you find.

1) use some electricity. Throw a water flask and a electric ball in the corridor, that usually kill it with no trouble. Can be annoying to grab back the ball after; either slurp the water little by little, throw a empty flask to remove some water, use the fireball item to evaporate the water, dig a little.
2) grab some polymorphine. There is some on the west side of the mine, right under the snow (or go trough the dark cave) if you aren't lucky. As usual grab a empty flask and throw it in a pool of it to get it back. Throw the flask AFTER removing his shield works better, I failed once because of this.
3) just be invisible when you go near him.
4) charm it (pheromone)
5) rush and teleport on the other end of the tunnel, when it collapse it usually kill him. Wait a bit for the red particule to fall down, then go back clear and grab the gold/perk. (my fav way, since i always carry a teleporting wand if i find one)
6) if you are lucky to find the freezing circle, freeze him then "crack" it open.

There is probably some other ways to kill him, so really, not a problem.

worm crystals are actually more of a liability than a boon, to be honest
they don't actually stop the worms from digging through the brickwork but they do stop it from tunnelling into the chamber, denying you the one possible upshot that the tunnels could provide

namely that you should be able to use their tunnels to avoid an early steve spawn yet still grab the goodies but the crystal makes them route around the place you want to go

lukki are probably worse though because their aggro radius causes them to anger the gods while you're still inside the temple rather than at seemingly random times
