[Spoilers] sun stone disappeared

I am currently in NG+2, I took two sun stones from new game through NG+ and +2, I put both of them by the nullifying altar to do other quests, but when I returned there was only one. No matter eating spells or anything were cast around it, and to my knowledge nothing that could possibly destroy it was even in the area, so why did one of them disappear? Most importantly, is there any way I can retrieve the missing stone, possibly by editing the files? I'm aware the ghost boss no longer spawns in NG+, which is why I'm so mad about this.

Confirmation needed but the stones seems to survive badly NG cycles. From Wiki: "Entering NG+ can delete some of your sunseeds or sunstones due to a bug, but 2 sunseeds and 2 sunstones seems to be a combo that survives the trip often".

My guess is that your second disappeared at some save and exit OR load/unload of chunk. Item spawner mod or "simple" retry could help. If you can do it once, you can do it again.

And yes, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I think 4th or 5th would be sun of mine actually ended being sun.

Yeah, I might just use cheatgui mod or something to get it back, then immediately disable it. Either that or I can just do it another run, but despite feeling kinda cheat-y, I think enabling cheatgui for just this one thing couldn't hurt

Fun. Also is it safe to do a backup right before NG+ or even right before trying to activate the sunseed using explosives in NG+ ?
