Trouble with lively concoction

I have over 100 hours in Noita but feel like a total noob.

Tried a run today and after immediately finding the potion room decided to check out alchemy recipes. To my joy, I found that Lively Concoction is listed as
Gunpowder
Concentrated Mana
Oil

Yay? I mean, I have managed alchemic precursor by accident once, but never the lively concoction.

On the Coal Pits I found a mountain of gunpowder. So, spray oil and mana around... and nothing happens. What gives? How should I exactly be getting the alchemy to work? After 5 minutes of kicking gunpowder and expending my flasks, I have no result.

Please help.
My seed is 1032402917 and it's just not happening for me.

I think there's a few varieties of gunpowder. Try the one that's produced by the gunpowder trail modifier.

Internally, the stuff in the coal mines shows up as "gunpowder_explosive"

So there's two varieties of gunpowder? Actually, I googled around a bit and discovered there are 4 varieties of gunpowder? Gee whiz!

I wish that by this time of 1.0 all the gunpowders would already be streamlined into one, because what's the point?

Thanks for your help - at least I managed to slice myself in that run, so I don't need to bother with that issue for now.
