Desert Music machine is missing
Well, yeah. All of the desert music machines are missing so fare. I´m at paralell 4 already and all are gone. The other 3 are still there. did i miss something?

I've experienced this too. Sometimes they're missing when I move in the beginning to get the essence of earth.
The first time I thought I might have destroyed it because I was shooting arround into the distance.
But they were missing sometimes on other plays too. Just the empty hand there...
Yes, the essence seems to despawn this particular Machine and i dont know why. It´s the place i start the parallel world run and i´f i try to get a nice early wand in the fungus.
It´s my third real chance now, to get that stupid chest and have to stop, because it will not work out.
Feels bad.
The music machines still fall through terrain and explode seemingly at random even after the fix they tried tried in epilogue update (putting them on pedastals)
So it appears to me now, that the machines do not disappear, when I don't kick them along the way to the element.
They disappeared every time when I did.

So was I just lucky?
I have no idea. I found one far to the west world and i hope, the game get some continuously Bugfixing in the future.
It was there on my way in, but when I got the essence of Earth and flew over top on my way to the essence eater, it disappeared. The mud I poured on top of it was still there, floating in the air. Last time I tried this (on the same seed), I didn't float over top on my way back. I took to the ground, and the jukebox was still there.
Whenever the jukebox disappears, the common theme seems to be that I flew over top of it on my way back.
Boo. This time I took the low road after getting the Essence of Earth and the music machine disappeared anyway. Does anyone know why it happens some times and not others?
I'm pretty sure in general, the bug consists of the music machines (and treasure chests, and other physics controlled items) getting loaded before the terrain they're supposed to sit on, which allows them to fall unimpeded and get encased by terrain after that loads. Floating a high distance above the music machines would increase the odds of this happening, but it can still happen if you approach from another angle.

I'm not sure if the pedestals are treated specially (maybe the load distance is increased for those?) but if on your current seed, the music machine naturally falls off the pedestal in one parallel world, the odds of it being gone will be higher in all other parallel worlds too (since they all have the same general layout)

I've noticed the same behaviour for treasure chests; it's especially obvious when you trigger the chest rain because you'll be pretty high up when it happens (so the game will have unloaded the ground level to save memory) and chests fall down past your location. When you get back to the ground, the chests are gone, but if you later explore the layers below, you'll suddenly find chests that weren't there before (which are the same chests that spawned from the chest rain, got far away enough from you for long enough to get unloaded, and then got reloaded along with the terrain when you got close to them again)
Theres a very big chance that they spawned underground, it happened to me a couple of times...

Yeah; to be more precise, it probably spawned above ground before the ground was there, fell, and then the game decided to load/generate the ground on top of it. It's definitely worth digging down from the platform.
Neat! That's good advice.
Music boxes spawn only in 3 worlds. The main world, and the first left and right parallel. They will not spawn more than one parallel world over
So, figured I'd contribute because this has been a problem for me for ages and I think I might have finally got it to behave for me at least.

I am 99% sure Boksha has the right of it.

So this run, after getting down to the snowy depths and heading back up, even though I had a teleport wand... I did the unthinkable. I simply.... walked.... across the whole desert. Low and behold.... the machine was still on its plinth. I blasted a tunnel under it, then proceeded to the diamond to get the essence.

On the way back, I SLOWLY descended the cliff, no rush... you know the rate of descent, just blasting the levi a wee bit each time the amount I had used previously had recharged, maybe a little more. Then slowly hopped and skipped along... and for the first time in about 20 runs... the machine was STILL on its plinth.

Anyway onwards I go, grab the paha silma from the snowy wastes, back over to the desert - again as soon as I got to the desert, walking only. Upon reaching the machine... still there.

Anyway, the only perk worth anything I got by snowy depths was tinker and I'm raiding wandmart now with the hope that maybe with a few good wands and some luck, I might be able to take on Noita Daddy (Alchemist) and win for only the 3rd time... if I do, get the key, go back slowly and the machine is still there... I will try to remember to update.
OK well I've already Noita'd myself (mostly skill issues ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) since then, but what I can say is, edging slowly through the desert each time, I have not ONCE seen the machine gone.
I think Boksha has the right idea of it, too. When I walk across the desert rather than fly (or levitate from great heights), the music machine is always where it belongs. But any time I don't move through the area 'on foot' the machine predictably goes missing (and never returns). I think the machine is right on the edge of a cell, which makes it very common for the machine to load in before the cell around it does, so it just 'falls' until the cell gets loaded, the most common result of which is the machine getting overwritten by the cell's terrain.

I think a good 'test fix' would be to make them 'static' objects not subject to gravity, like the pillars beneath the machines are, because it seems like being affected gravity is the most common culprit in music machine disappearances.
