So using spell wrapping machine gun wand with spells to power seems like a bad idea
Noted, thanks for the heads up

If it is a legitimate issue, hopefully the devs have a look.

I just created a very powerful wand that uses 'Spells To Power' without any problems beside a quick framedrop upon triggering. So it is likely a unique issue to your system/game ( I have my share of those as well ).

Alright, it turns out my initial impression of 'Spells To Power' was wrong and that OP is definitely on to something. Once I started using the spell frequently my game began to lock up for prolonged periods of time with each cast. First for a couple of seconds, then for a couple of minutes..

This topic should be moved to the bug report sub-forum, because at the moment 'Spells To Power' is literally game breaking dangerous to use. It's like it causes a memory leak that make the game choke on the damage calculations.

I found a wand with spells to power as always cast. Everytime I used it the game froze for 1-2 seconds and after that everything around me was pushed away with force, even liquids. After restarting the game everything was back to normal and the wand didn't have shockwave effect anymore.

found a random wand in the jungle with spells to power and several homebringer teleport bolts... since i didnt use the homebringer yet i still had to unlock it for spell completion... shooting that wand was a BAD idea... still crashes/freezes the game. not fixed yet after almost a year...

Still not fixed. They obviously don't care about fixing bugs. Had a killer run going. Picked up a wand with always cast spells to power with a single spark bolt in it. Cast it and game froze.
I have a really beefy desktop and this is the first bit of Noita that actually taxed the thing, though I happened to have all the pieces to make it as computationally difficult as possible: quad cast + (3x triplicate bolt) + spells to power + magic bolt, on a wand that always cast homing. It DID manage to actually cast the spell and render the effect, frame by frame, over the course of about a minute, but for some reason the water physics also completely broke in the region as it was casting. So I never tried it outside the temple.

Just in terms of computational complexity that spell modifier is a TERRIBLE idea and not within the capabilities of most computers. I'm tempted to have my partner try it on his supercomputer at work, though...

the game is limited to a certain performance for whatever reason (engine I guess) so I don't believe there will be any difference beyond a certain point in hardware. the game only uses 10% of my CPU despite the game slowing down to 1 frame per 2 minutes with some spell configurations
I've had something like this happen. I suspect it has something to do with explosion calculations. Spell hits something, game pauses, and every grain of sand with line of sight to the projectile is obliterated. I also hear a deep rumbling whenever this happens. My guess is whenever a spells to power-affected projectile dies without absorbing something, the game will divide some nonzero number by 0 and then set off an explosion with infinite radius, causing the entire loaded map to be evaluated for damage and soot, thus taking a very long time to compute.
I saw DunkOrSlam talking about this issue on stream, and he mentioned that there is a mod that fixes it, although I'm not sure what it's called, sorry, and mods mean achievements don't work (although I believe that there's another mod that can fix that too)
