Report a translation problem
The physics gets behind, or whatever process it is running gets overloaded or something.
Don't spam shoot stuff that causes lag or screens and screens full of liquid to move, and try to keep your save from getting insanely large.
Since it happens more for some people than others, there may be a system spec component to it. So yeah, it's probably a mix of the game and your system. You could try making sure you don't have any other heavy software running while playing (in particular: make sure you have your internet browser closed, since those are memory, and sometimes CPU hogs).
