Chain Bolt is by far one of THE best offensive spells in the game. It's naturally homing. It deals great damage. It can go through walls and around corners if you're positioned right, making it incredibly safe to deal with dangerous enemies or things that may be holding dangerous wands. It's explosion effect doesn't hurt you. The only real problem with Chain Bolt is that its range isn't the best. You'll have to get fairly close to enemies in order for more than one hit to register. But with perks like shield or projectile reflection, that becomes less of a problem.
Chain Bolt by itself can deal with absolutely everything in the early game, all the way up to Jungle. The only thing I've really bothered to do to Chain Bolt is to use the tried and true "machine gun" combo of (Chainsaw > Double Spell > Chain Bolt) in order to fire off multiple Chain Bolts instantly. It costs a lot of mana, so you may only be able to get off only 2 or 3 before it recharges, but that's more than enough. With 2 Increased Mana spells on that combo, though, you'll be able to fire Chain Bolts indefinitely, and delete absolutely everything.

The lightning bolt spell is another one that's just an incredible spell. By itself, it has more raw power than Chain Bolt. One lightning bolt can carry you all the way to the end of the game, depending on how the rest of your perks are looking. Like Chain Bolt, I don't really do anything to Lightning Bolt. The most I do, is use multicast spells on multiple copies of lightning bolt to double/triple that raw damage.
Biggest downside is that you can EASILY kill yourself if you're not careful, and even if you are. A single particle will block lightning bolt, so if you're close enough to the electric explosion, or the game just hates you, you will eat at LEAST 150 damage, on top of whatever damage whatever you were trying to shoot at decides to deal, since you'll also be stunned for a good five seconds. The Explosion Immunity perk negates this downside partially, plus the Electricty/Electric Immunity Perk, there's suddenly NO downsides to using Lightning Bolt with reckless abandon, except for the fact that it's a mana-hungry spell and it really weighs down any wand's recharge time, so it's not spammable.

The most fun combo I think I've ever built is (Homing Shot > Explosion on Drunk Enemies > Mist of Spirits). This also works with Explosion on Slimy and Mist of Slime as well. If you have the Homing Shot perk, you'll only need the explosive mod and the respective mist.
The mist spells have a single particle in the center of them than can contact enemies. With Homing Shot, or the Homing Shot perk, these particles will rush to stick to whatever enemy is nearby, and unlike most spell particles, it will not disappear on contact with an enemy. It'll just cling to them until the particle goes away.
This particle normally can't do damage. But with the "Explosion on Drunk Enemies" mod, the Mist of Spirits particle suddenly deals 40 damage and explodes in a pretty decent radius. Because the particle doesn't disappear, and is constantly touching a drunk enemy because of the mist it's producing, this equates to constant explosions every couple of frames for several seconds. One cast of this spell will destroy almost anything in the regular game. There's a couple of enemies you're not advised to use this combo on, though, namely the white orbs in the Temple. But everything else? Go wild. It will NOT survive.

And then there's (Freeze Charge > Tentacle). Instantly kills anything by freezing it and then immediately dealing physical damage with the tentacle. Boring, effective, not a lot to say.
It's a very specific set of requirements, but the result is a very powerful wand capable of digging through terrain like nothing, and dealing hundreds of damage in seconds. The firebolt/magic missile explosion immediately detonates the explosive crystal, resulting in quite the destructive force.
It might be more fun than OP but still pretty good
If the initial hits doesn't kill them, the room filling with giant magic missiles will.
Thing was basically a Ghallerhorn from Destiny in wand form.
The more mana increase you find the sillier it can be.
(Chainsaw sets cast delay to 0. Find a wand with low recharge delay.)
It killed everything. Enemies. Walls. Floors. Barrels. Me. It didn't care. Everything died.
Homing, damage field, explosive impact, freeze charge, saw blade.
It's a hard group of spells to find but this combo does over a 1000 damage. When an enemy dies, their frozen corpse shatters, the fragments can kill other nearby enemies with physics damage. Think of it like shrapnel from an explosion.
