2 Orb of Knowledge Questions (Possible Spoilers)
1 - When I first grabbed the Orbs of Knowledge (the ones I have found anyways), they had a unique spell inside. Now when I grab the same orbs, they are always health upgrades. Is there any way to get those spells back, or are they lost forever since I didn't use them on the first run I found them?

2 - When crossing the lava lake and then the chasm, there is an "orb room" with ancient machinery. Upon taking the orb, a boss of sorts spawns in the chasm. I can't figure out how to hurt it; it seems immune to everything, it deletes land around it just by existing, and it casts a large variety of destructive spells. Worse yet, I have combed the Wiki's monsters page and can't find that monster listed; in fact, the Wiki says something completely different should happen on grabbing the orb (one of five different effects), yet I always get this super-monster that chases me across the map. What should I do about it?

Thanks!

1. The spells you found in orbs will now spawn randomly in your games. The heart is just so you have a consistent reward (+25hp each) for getting orbs in later runs.

2.This miniboss is the new 1.0 effect of claiming that previously "easy to get" orb. It spawns a really mean miniboss that summons wands and has a pretty beefy shield.
Using ambrosia and projectile proof spells/perks is a good place to start. Generally you want something with massive area of effect, and/or damage over time.

Do you go for that orb at the start still? I've pretty much decided to leave it until later in the run when I have something to kill the miniboss.

Yeah I avoid it unless I have berserkium/ambrosia and a beefy wand. I usually only get that orb if I am coming back up from Snowy Depths with a good haul.

for number 2 if you go through the roof the boss doesn't spawn so I'd just recommend doing that instead if you get a digging spell/energy orb/luminous drill.

You're more likely to get unstable/teleportatium in the mines early than a luminous drill/digging spell that can do brickwork.

You don't need brickwork for the ceiling, it'd dirt and damp rock.

Teleportatium or Polymorph would still only take a fraction of the time, and are easier to find in mines.

I wouldn't know, those materials have killed me far too many times so I don't pick them up, not sure how reliable either will be as well, chaotic polymorphine doesn't have a lot of good hits for that and using teleportium and going any distance to your left will kill you seems iffy.

what roof are you talking about? I don't understand

The roof of the orb room. The trigger for spawning the boss seems to be passing back trough the entrance area, so if you dig another exit (or teleport out) you can avoid it.

Okay, I'll save that orb for later then. I've never really made it to the point I CAN go back up and re-collect things from the early-game and side areas, so I guess it's time to get gud!

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I once managed to escape the boss back over the lava lake and into the holy mountain and it didn't harass me for the rest of the run. This doesn't seem to be normal from what I'm hearing.

It's not like the game can load the whole world at once ...
If you can get far enough from something at some point it's not loaded anymore, so it will stop moving untill you get close again.
