how is this compared to Tales of Arise?

I haven't played any other JRPG like this except Tales of Arise that I tried but didn't like.

yeah combat/fights/bosses/chars etc. I miss the animated ultimates from tales of arise though

Combat a billion times better, even though I like tales of Arise combat as well.
Bosses way more fun.
Music to be fair most songs in tales games are meh, this one has pretty great OST overall.

Characters and story I'd say Arise is better only due to this game barely have any character development.

Keep in mind this game is pretty much Monster hunter that is way more accessible IMO, with Platinum games gameplay which is a massive +

Arise has actual plot and characters while this is from a Gacha game (so the plot and characters can be treated as such. Great design but have the unfortunate fate of being "one time use and discard paper thin" characters)

However, the bosses here are cooler and more entertaining due to Arise changing the enemy's Hi ougi/Mystic Arte into one long sequence of attacks that just... looks terrible. Just look at Edna and Eizen. Especially Eizen. Baby Simba's roar seem more terrifying that his revamped Dragon Howling.

Off topic a little, as far as Tales of games go, Imo i'd say Abyss is still the best in terms of plot and gameplay.

Arise is a great game as well. It has a full story, whereas this story only has the major plot points / events, without any of the character development or interactions or worldbuilding or long term attachment to the cast.

While those major events are of much higher quality then they are in Arise (arguably some of the best ive seen in games and unlike most of their kind, they are fully rendered instead of CGI) they are also the only story we get so its not enough to make the story great.

Its basically like watching the top 10 biggest anime scenes without having watched the shows up till the point those moments happen.

On the other hand, as noted by others this game has a lot better combat, and Arise already had great combat.

So I recommend this game if you like amazing action combat, or want to see some epic boss fights and dont care about being attached to the story or not.
