What exactly is multiplayer portion of this game?
Is this like monster hunter world when it comes to multiplayer?

Can my friend and I start playing at same time and progress through main story line together to farming end game?

Main story is single player only unfortunately.
Once you finish the Main story (Chapter 9) you go into Chapter 0 and that is mutiplayer central, like Monster Hunter.

I don't really understand the Monster Hunter comparisons. It's like multiplayer in Monster Hunter if fighting the monster in multiplayer was always limited to the arena map. In GBFR, the multiplayer maps are very, very small compared to storymode maps (which are also pretty small, to be honest).

It's similar to Monster Hunter in that you can form a multiplayer party to tackle side challenges which include fighting large opponents. Some of these large opponents have parts which can be targeted and destroyed, and you collect drops from these battles for progression. At the end of the match the game summarizes who in the group excelled at specific activities during the battle. There is also a multiplayer hub.

That is more or less where the similarities end, and much of this can be found in other games. The combat is much faster paced and more arcade-like than Monster Hunter, however.

A lot of the gameplay mechanics are copied or even literally cloned from monster hunter.
One example of a mechanic directly cloned is the "dizzy" status. There's many examples of this or that copied from monster hunter.

But who cares, if it works it works. (status effects tho.. we didnt need them)

All I can say is that I have a ridiculous number of hours in Monster Hunter; even having played it multiple times this past week. I really do not feel like I'm playing Monster Hunter when I'm playing GBFR. There are similar mechanics (as there are with many games) but the feelings the two games evoke are very different.

I just think trying to appeal to players by suggesting GBFR is like Monster Hunter risks setting an expectation that's going to leave at least some of those players disappointed by what they find.

(For the record I do like GBFR.)
