Actually, Japanese really really sounded very stupid for me when I was growing up. So was English. But I really learn to appreciate them as I get used to them.

I have no problem with both language now. That said, Japanese voice actors are more professional then their English counterpart in most media.
This is also because the industry is much more polished. In the USA and Canada the VA's have Unions and demand significantly higher fee's. To take pay for work at below Union rates they have to go without credit for the work so cannot be on resume etc. Very sad. In Japan, The industry is everyday all day, work many jobs with different shows or games for your studio. An actual real career not a hobby or art form.

I always play Japanese games on JP voices. Chinese games on Chinese voices. I never understand those who say they prefer English dub in Japanese games. Do you watch your American hollywood movies in Japanese voices?

its one of those things where the native language the product or media was made in usually suits it the best, as it was what they had in mind when creating characters etc...

Though for english media that really only works for movies, as the quality of VA in the ENG market isn't too high for games/cartoons in general, even western made ones (not saying they don't have their stand outs, that would be silly to suggest, but judging the overall mediums talent)

JP obviously. English dub voice actors suck at their job already, but then they're also made to read the pure cringe the """localizers""" came up with.

JP is always superior in fantasy games. ENG VA's try to copy the dramatic and exaggerated acting JP does, and it always sounds wrong.

Only time it's good is when the character is stoic or an ass, and the VA is forced to be grounded lol

Yeah definetely JP
JP obviously, but just about anything is better than listening to the disgusting American voice acting clique. Not to mention English voices contribute to dubtitle cancer.

Yeah even well intended shounen male protag voices sound awful.. and I'm not even talking about inner dialogue here.

The blinding difference in why the quality of voice acting is so different in ENG and JP is because Japan has colleges fully dedicated on Voice Acting, they take this line of work really seriously. I even looked up the requirements on them and they are very high standard.

There is a slice of life anime (Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo) where there is a character that wants to be a voice actress but she encounters a lot of hardships and issues that interfere.
It is a good watch, at first I thought it was a silly comedy anime but it actually hits you hard on real life school issues that students go through in trying to get the job they want.
- There is the main protag that wants to be a game designer.
- There is the main female protag that is an art prodigy but all she wants is to draw manga but society wants to drag her back to making art. (The Main protag gets jealous of her alot because of how successful she can be)
- There is the mentioned character that wants to be a Voice Actress and it shows her struggles

there are other 2 characters that also have their issues but the 3 characters I mentioned took the spotlight in the show.

JP has an all-star cast that is both more experienced as a whole and have been reprising these specific roles for nigh on a decade now in most cases. Not to diminish the efforts of the English cast but the choice is obvious.

Considering the english dialogue is not even what any of the characters are actually saying, The JP voices win just by being the correct lines by default.

Add to that, that the JP voice quality is as usual just over all of a better higher quality and fits the cast, there is really no reason to play the game with the DUB outside people like me and others who play it only to compare line delivery, dialogue spoken and whether they bothered to cast voices that match the character in the slightest.

SPOILER ALERT, they fail in almost every aspect (not even taking into account that if you play with the DUB/read the DUB-titles you are playing a different game then the devs actually made... starting right from the first 5 minutes you play the game- all the way until the end.)
Hey maybe someone should mod the english text with the correct words then, since some of us can['t read japanese~ I'm not sure how difficult that would be though. Dx [/quote]

Someone would have to play the entire game and make a transcript by ear, which would then have to be translated (and people would complain the translation isn't accurate because of course they would). It's not only a monumental task, it's also thankless. Yeah, the english transcript adds a good deal more... color... than I personally would prefer, but it conveys the overall spirit of the characters adequately, even if localised- Io is a kid trying to act mature, Rackam is a goof who's way too attached to his ship, Katalina is straight-laced, Percival is haughty, Cagliostro overplays the "teen" persona, etc.
