The Devs have refused to address this and this is the biggest flaw in this game. Like seriously, everything is great, but the moment someone DCes, the game is over and you have to stop and reload your save. That disrupts game flow and extremely annoying to have to do.
Devs need to listen to the community, this game has been out for almost 2 years and there still isn't a feature that allows players who disconnected to rejoin that current game... It makes for extremely messy and frustrating play, especially if you're playing with public people. Most of the time, it just ends up being bots by the time the game ends. It's highly disruptive and the reason a lot of people hate this game.
I have no idea how placing a bot in the player's place solves anything... Why would they just assume I'll be ok with just replacing my friend with a bot and resume playing?? That's ridiculous, unless that player has to leave, then it makes sense sure. But there HAS to be a feature that allows players to rejoin in-progress games.
I'm a developer and this feature is NOT hard to code or build out. Almost every modern game with lobbies have this feature, even indie games. For Pummel to have been out for two years and still not have it is a disgrace.
The worst part is that when you load a save, players must re-join in the turn order at the time of saving. Why the turn order? Why not the original player slot order, or just use Steam IDs to match players back into their saved slot? It's so confusing and makes loading games a 10+ minute process.
I've had 3 separate games now that just wound up cancelled because of how bad the networking is for this game. So out of the 6 games me and my friends have tried playing, we've had a 50% success rate at actually getting the game to work.
Do you listen to us @Pummel team? We want an "INVITE" button in the game or at least how to re-join the game, that's the easy thing you can help your players now!!!
