This is not how I envisaged my mid life crisis starting (more on that later), but here we are after 15 hours of VR CDDJ'ing with TribeXR.

This title is everything that I'd hope for VR DJing as a returning in mid-life crisis, Ibiza flight booking, Vive user... It has all the gadgets that I never had back when I was a lad: BPM counter; key analysis; beat grid; waveform; EQ; loop; sync; beat fx; colour FX; and more. It works with MP3! I don't even have to carry back breaking equipment across fields and on to stages. It's right there in my room whenever I want.

And it integrates in to Twitch.

Furthermore, there's a wealth of experienced DJs offering help and advice to anyone wishing to pick up this DJing lark via videos in-game.

To top it off, you can also go back-to-back with another DJ, (or three) and benefit from the multiplayer environment to experience tuition or just duelling / co-op DJing.

It's amazing technology, a great way to learn a new skill and maybe you too will pick up a new found love of music thanks to TribeXR.

It doesn't stop there either. The community around twitch and discord is awesome. I've about the same time played as participating in the awesome community streams spamming gifs to the back wall, emotes on the desk and just kicking back and enjoying the tunes played live with Vive, WMR or FacebookVR users. It can be beamed in to VRChat too....

Finally, about that mid-life crisis.... I used to run an "events" company in the 90's. We ran "discos" according to the booking applications for venues, but we all knew they were raves. Fast forward to current times as a husband, dad and owner of dog with a regular job and a mortgage. Only one shelf left of 12" vinyl, and nothing to play it on. Along comes TribeXR and it was like being a young version of me, but in the future, still dreaming of making it big and playing the dance tent at T In the Park or Glastonbury. Now that I've got a new set of decks in my house, who knows? It might just happen....

Bruh... I’ve been DJing on actual equipment since 2002 and this little piece of software is almost 100% spot on. Highly recommended .

you didn't "change the payment model" you essentially raised the price of the game from $50 to $300, while letting people buy a limited time, I had real faith in this, but you are making a very bad choice

people want to OWN what they pay for, this isn't commercial software, it's a vr game

Well.. i've being a virtual dj for a long long time... from high-fidelity to vrChat passing by TheWaveVR and electronauts, and obviously just me mixing in front of a camera. basically playing music in the virtual world is something that has always fascinating me.

When i saw TribeXR of course i had to try it. Seems it was in closed beta for a while but i remember seeing the devs playing around on Twitch.

My initial feedbacks are a little mixed, but i feel its very important for me to support this project because its a tall order and is being developed by a small team... maybe just one guy i dunno.

Here's why i think it has potential:
-Seems to have Twitch in mind.
-Let's you play your own tracks.
-Spectator camera aka different views

But there's one thing that make me hold off making a show with it:
-No avatar customisation.
We are online entities and its pretty hard to just have a default looking generic pink head while mixing and remaining interesting for an extending time.

All in all, i won't refund it... but its because i want to show support. I'll try it again after a few updates!

I never really leave reviews but TribeXR is going to be an exception. Im in no way an experienced DJ. I bought and downloaded this game with about 10 hours behind a simple sb3 (and that was 6 months ago). I bought TribeXR with the intention of following a few prerecorded lessons and to practice with the standard (expensive) club equipment. And thats what I got. UNTIL I stumbled on the real magic of this game/tool. WORKSHOPS. These guys have a free live workshop everyday(most days more than one). ive joined 3 of these workshops and realized I didn't even know how to practice. Today I joined a workshop with Tsickle and ended up being the only person to join, which led to a 1 on 1 dj lesson. This dude opened up my third eye when it comes to djing. I had a 3 hour solo practice session afterward and was absolutely jamming out. Then i got to thinking, I dont even wanna know how much someone as experienced as Tsickle would have charged me for that one hour. Any way with all that said big thumbs up from me.

TLDR; Congrats - You had a great game, then locked it behind a subscription. It hurts me to say, don't touch this game at the moment.

TribeXR is, in essence, a DJ simulator, their partnership with AlphaTheta (PioneerDJ) has allowed them to model in incredible detail, a high end set of CDJ300s with a DJM900 Nexus 2. For all you bedroom DJs out there, this club setup would cost upwards of $7000. For what was a $25 game, this allowed you to interact with a virtual model of this equipment, loading songs into a virtual DJ deck, and mixing between them. Personally, I used this game to help me transition from using a physical controller with a laptop to using the real club equipment.

While modeled in incredibly high detail, is important to note that there is naturally a large gap between the virtual and physical hardware. The CDJ's don't have a functioning menu system, not every knob and button is intractable, there are no cables. While I agree with why this has been done, it is important to note, as the game is able to teach you how to use DJ equipment, not necessarily understand it. This only comes into play when transitioning from virtual to physical hardware, eg: you could be sitting there for 5 minutes trying to figure out why your ProDJ link inst working, and its because an IP hasn't been correctly assigned, or your cables aren't plugged in. Again its important to note this isn't a gripe at the game, it's just something to note, the game teaches you a lot, but not everything. Furthermore, It is sometimes difficult to use buttons and faders. Physical hardware, for example allows for a button to be pressed in many ways. Think, you could lock your finger, wrist and elbow and use your shoulder to 'press' the button, you could use your elbow, or your wrist, you get the idea. In real life we use a combination of muscles and joints to interact with something, in VR, buttons are pressed using a trigger, using only your finger. This system as a whole is a hardware limitation, not a fault with the game, but again, I deem it important to note as you get so immersed in this game that it can be difficult to get accustom to this new way of controlling DJ Decks.

The game is easy to learn and offers a lot to enjoy. Just note, there is no campaign, no missions, nothing like that. It is as simple as, Launch game, Choose some tracks, mix. Personally, I love this, but you will only enjoy the game if this description sounds like fun. Entertainment goes up exponentially when you start using the multiplayer rooms feature. This allows others (strangers of friends depending on the privacy level) to join you in the booth as a punter, or as another DJ. This is the best part of the game in my opinion, Myself and a friend spent close to 5 hours performing a set to ourselves and a couple of mates. We laughed, we cried, but we certainly had a great time. We even hooked up Resolume, a visuals software used on the biggest stages in the world, and had one of our mates perform visuals for us. It was a great night.

This review focuses on Two pieces of hardware, the CDJ and The DJM. Tribe also has a whole host of other equipment for you to use, from midi controllers, to vinyl decks, it has some hardware for every type of DJ.

So, the review has been positive thus far, It sounds like a great game. So, why is it shrouded in a red glow. Well, as of today, I can no longer recommend the game. The game has become free to play, but with 95% of the content that was included in the $25 price tag being locked behind a new subscription model. I would consider myself lucky, as I seemingly get to keep all the content that I originally had when I purchased the game. But new players will be forced to buy a subscription to enjoy the game as I have described it in this review. I am against subscriptions anyway, I allow it for services where i am getting fed new content consistently, eg Netflix, Spotify, etc, But this game does not fall under that bracket. I am not alone in my feelings. The game has dropped to Mixed recent reviews in just a few days due to this change. It is saddening as I have preached this game for a while, but will be unable to continue with that.

Devs: I am genuinely sorry. I doubt this decision came from you guys. You have made a great game, I would go as far to say that it isn't even a game and is an actual simulator. This is the first game that I have felt sad about giving a negative review. I genuinely love the game. I just can no longer recommend it. I do hope the pricing model reverts back when the dust settles.

Switching from a normal paid product to subscription nonsense gets you a negative review.

The game was "Free" on Steam, so I thought I'd give it a shot. To actually play the game, you have to sign up for a monthly subscription. Cheeky ripoff

Even tho i got the "free lifetime subscription", making this game "free to play" on a monthly subscription base was a bad decision and im going to search alternatives to enjoy with my friends.
