Access the menu on quest 2.

Me and a friend both use quest 2 through oculus airlink and we both own the game through steam.
For some reason when I start the game it runs in oculus mode (as I want) but for him it always starts in steamVR mode which means everything works fine except he can not enter the in game menu by pressing the menu button on the left controller, it just brings up the steam menu instead.
We have gone through all the settings I could think of and they are the same on both computers, he tried with the -oculus launch option, oculus is set as openXR runtime on both computers, tried disabling steam overlay with no effect.
We need to find a way to run it in oculus mode but cant, if there was at least a way to turn the deafening music down without accessing the menu would be a start.

try setting oculus as the openXR runtime in the oculus app

I just run oculus air link, start up steamvr within the oculus itself so it runs steamvr and I'm inside the steamvr void.

Then I just go to desktop 1 and click play on Zero Caliber making sure I run it on steamvr and not oculus. (I do that for blade and sorcery because oculus version sucks for optimization for some reason.)

It works for me and all the buttons work.
