Zero Caliber VR

Worst Graphics ever experienced in VR
Just upfront: this is not a performance issue, it is an issue with the game graphics even at the highest settings looking like garbage on a Vive Pro compared to any other VR game.

Performance wise, I'm running _any_ other VR game at stable 90fps (Contractors, Onward, Pavlov etc.) (with 150% SS on a Vive Pro, 1080Ti, i7 8700k 6 Core watercooled @5Ghz, 32GB DDR4, 1TB NVME Pro) and this game here looks like it has DK1 Graphics (feels like 240p on Youtube) even when turning all the graphic settings to maximum including 140%-200% Steam Super Sampling. I really tried out all the different settings and it makes almost no difference. I have a hard time enjoying this game at all despite it's good content when I feel like I accidently connected my headset to my gamecube.

When turning everything to the highest settings in game and adding the usual 140% super sampling in steam, my 1080Ti is running at 45 fps like it's maxed out and the graphics are still a pixelated mess. I tried various graphic settings now and it just doesn't improve at all, no matter what I do. It honestly feels like this game was made for PSVR and then ported 1:1 to PC with the exact same resolution.

The only explanation for me is that the game is rendered far below the native resolution. Else it doesn't make sense at all. Could it be that the game doesn't support the Vive Pro's native resolution? Or that the game always renders at the same resolution?

Btw: When I start it, it is starting windowed (on my PC screen) and I can't maximize the window, so screen recording is not possible there in 1080p / fullscreen. But that's just a minor issue compared to my headset's graphics.

Again, this is not a performance issue, it is a problem with the resolution of the game or however you want to call it. Please get access to a vive pro on a decent PC and compare your game's look to any other VR fps game.

Yeah the graphics are pretty atrocious. The game has no excuse for looking this bad.
It's using Unreal so that might be why it looks so bad.
When it's 2020 and you think a 1080ti is worth a house.

With RX590, RX5700/XT and VII the graphics look fine, although this was using a Valve Index at 2500-4000 per eye so...

Check the date of the thread, 1080Ti was the best you could get back then. Despite that, GPU doesn't matter when you push all settings to max and it still looks like garbage, this isn't about performance.

Is there hope that the graphics can be updated?

I find it strange that when looking at my hands or guns everything looks stunning. But as soon as I lift my head and look >5 meters in front of me I'm chocked about how it looks. It's like I'm looking at the world through HEAVY heat haze.
And setting the graphics to Ultra does not have to do with it, it's still the same effect.
As if it was created that way.

Don't get me wrong, I really love the game and mechanics. It's only that in it's current state i feel like its not even worth it to try to shoot anything located >10 meters away. It ruins the immersion sadly.

I mean I us a CV01 Rift and I think the game looks great regardless. No idea what ur problem is. Maybe drivers or a re-install of the game. Its a slightly taxing game but shouldnt run that bad. If I were you id spend the cash to upgrade if its still a problem. Maybe a problem if its on a hdd

So you're telling me that if you stand 2 meters outside of Squad Operations and look at the Multiplayer screen, it doesn't look bad with all the aliasing going on?
I haven't tried a CV01, but if you honestly can say you are not seeing anything looking shady while watching into the room, then the CV01 displays must be really potato compared to the Quest 2.

Ive also looked at my monitor when this is going on and the game still looks great. What are the minimum specs for the game? Im not at home rn.
i hate to say it. but i agree.
of these games, if i were to rate graphics, i would say:
1. onward v1.7
2. pavlov
3. contractors (just)
4. onward v1.8
5. zero caliber
yeah, i dont like all the modern effects it seems to have. things to shiny and washed out, too much glow etc.
but the main killers are terrible, and i mean terrible aliasing/ jaggies. and low res environment textures.
also bad colour palette i reckon. hard to say.
but the performance is also pretty bad, especially with the low quality visuals. (i have 3700x, rtx2070 super)
disclaimer: take what im saying with a grain of salt as i have not played in a while.

yeah, one of my biggest gripes is the hand models.

I have to agree, although for me it wasn't a deal breaker. The game is still fun, but I'd appreciate if they fixed this wierd under-sampling issue or added some kind of setting for it. I played through the Oculus directly, have to try it with SteamVR...
