If you could also describe your crashes that would be helpful (what you are doing in game to cause them, are you getting any errors and if so what do they say, etc.).
Also, just to confirm, when you say you have the game on an HDD you mean it is on an older disc drive vs. an SSD or M.2?
16 gigs ram.
HDD ST10000Lm049-2gh172 1 terabyte. Game is on the HDD
Main OS is on an SSD.
GTX Geforce RTX 2070(Downscaled Desktop version)
Please try the steps I listed though. You might want to also make sure that the game is using your dedicated GPU vs integrated graphics just in case.
If the issue were related to slower load times, stuttering, or texture pop-in, then sure, SSDs would improve things because they offer faster read speeds. But when it comes to actual game crashes, the problem lies somewhere else, likely with the game itself, system RAM, GPU, outdated drivers, or conflicts between software. An SSD won’t fix any of those things. It's not a one-size-fits-all fix for stability problems.
OP just because this guy has a "Developer" tag doesn't make him anything better then a Service Desk Tier 1 Agent or a Geek Squad Best Buy guy saying to nuke the Hard Drive to get a virus off.
You can try the following as I have this list of things I do with Indie games myself:
Update Your Drivers
Ensure your GPU, sound, and motherboard drivers are up to date.
Reinstall the Game
Uninstall and then reinstall the game to ensure there are no corrupted files.
Try Windowed Mode
Switch to windowed mode instead of fullscreen to check if it impacts stability.
Adjust In-Game Advanced Settings
Lower graphics settings in the game’s advanced options to reduce system load.
Use Launch Options
Add -dx11 or -d3d11 to the game’s launch options to force DirectX 11.
Verify Game File Integrity
Use your game client (Steam, Epic, etc.) to check and repair missing or corrupted files.
Disable Steam, Discord, and Nvidia Overlays
Turn off any in-game overlays, as they can cause performance issues.
Limit FPS to 60
Set a frame rate cap to reduce system strain and improve stability.
Turn Off Windows Game Mode
Disable Game Mode in Windows, as it can cause conflicts with some games.
Disable DWM Enhancements
Turn off Desktop Window Manager (DWM) enhancements to avoid graphical issues.
Turn Off Hardware Acceleration
Disable hardware acceleration in applications like browsers, Discord, or Steam—this is often the root cause of instability.
If you don't know how to do these, ask ChatGPT, and if possible ask an IT savvy friend so you dont mess anything up.
I also did not identify the HDD as the main cause for his crashes nor am I trying to use it as a "cop-out". I simply noted that it would be better for the game to be on an SSD (which it would) and that it could possibly present scenarios in which it could happen and/or create instability issues. Just because it and other games can run on an HDD doesn't mean it's not possible or that it wouldn't impact stability, but again it was merely a suggestion.
I appreciate your post and desire to help him, but your hostility towards me is completely unnecessary and unwarranted here.
