If you're looking at a screen that it's affecting, you'll die quick. But if you're not looking at any affected screens but it's in the room with you, you'll die much slower so take advantage of that to try and reach a safe area. Also, breaking screens will grab it's attention and make it go to another room/area so you can use that to distract it/keep it confined to a single area while another player scours the place. But do keep in mind, if you break a screen to try and distract it but it's chasing you, it WON'T work. You need to be in a safe area for you to be able to break screens and distract it yourself or a friend needs to break a screen to get it off you.
Going into screening rooms immediately brings it to that room, and to you. But if you can reach a safe area, a friend can break a screen in a completely different area and free up the screening room for you to search.
