I found this game looking through various “card games” present on Steam. I thought the deckbuilding and card battling systems had some potential, so I gave it a shot. The card battling system features 5 “lanes,” and fighters attack the enemies they’re facing. Every fighter you play can attack on the turn that it is played, and all attacking takes place on the player’s turn. Your deck has 30 cards, with a maximum of two copies of each card. The game uses the Hearthstone system of giving you one additional mana per turn, up to maximum of 10. However, you can accelerate this with certain cards.

The game let me know that I might be able to locate codes to unlock additional cards for my decks by watching the pilot of the Urbance show, and so I quickly located it on Youtube. Unfortunately, the writing is absolutely awful. Although the central concept of the world was intriguing, I couldn’t stomach watching it, so I found a Steam discussion board post in which a player had listed some of the codes.

This awful writing carries over to the game as well, and the game insists that you watch it’s middling dialogue cutscenes before playing each match.

The game supports a decent number of approaches – I mostly used a deck in which I played lots of small fighters with some direct damage and card draw, and relied on the card that gives all of your fighters +3/+0 until the end of the turn for my big swings. However, I also needed to create a direct damage deck when I faced an opponent who destroyed all of my fighters. For "expert" difficulty, I made a deck that used mana acceleration to get out powerful creatures quickly.

I got through about half of the matches on expert difficulty before deciding that I’d had enough of the game. By the time I quit, each enemy that I faced drew two cards per turn (compared to my one) and began with 60 health (as compared to my 30). These matches did not feel good to attempt for me.

If you generally enjoy deckbuilding games and you’re already played some of the better titles (Ironclad Tactics, System Crash, Etherlords 2), I think you’ll find Urbance Clans Card Battle! to be worth the price of admission. However, you’ll need a tolerance for awful writing and even a degree of unfairness if you want to pursue the expert level matches.

This basic game structure of the units attacking across at each other works pretty well sometimes, but in this case the general lack of combo effects and other special abilities makes every fight play out more or less the same.

They did a great job with the Urbance Animated Pilot.
To bad the vibe of this Animated short movie can not be found in this game.

If you are interested in the game keep in mind that you only should get the game for the gameplay alone.
The Storytelling, if you can call it like that, is the bare minimum at best.

After 3 battles the game was not able to keep my attention or interest in it.

This game isn't too bad, so I'd rate it as NEUTRAL, however it is very bareboned. The "story" is there although it's not interesting at all and characters are very shallow. The conflicts are pretty repetitive and depsite the devs writing under tips that the default deck isn't strong, it actually carried me through the first 3 areas with little to almost no modification. At the time of this review the game's 75% off so I can recommend it for such price ( 1,24€) as you'll get a decent 2-3 hours of playing through the story mode. I just wish there were more modes and of course some multiplayer PVP going on not to mention some customization options like card sleeves, play fields, prismatic cards, your own gang logo etc.
So my advice is that you stay on the Urbance anime as the pilot was amazing and fingers crossed that it'll actually become a series in the future.

disappointing boring gameplay

For its price I'd say it lives up to it, has nice art and subpar mechanics. Just isn't a game I'd play over and over.

Very fun and addictive game. Liking the system, allows to build a nice deck and strategy revolving around this easy to understand, and fast paced card game.

Shame, such great artistry, music, concept, theme, all wasted on dubious management decisions. Next time work more on difficulty with a balance team. Fully random start and 30 cards vs way too many NPC cards...

P.S. This game is so niche that if you enjoy bashing your head against a wall until you succeed in bleeding, you really cant have more fun doing so than with this one. I am sure some people will ABSOLUTELY enjoy it. I did too at first but then not so much.

Too short (less than 4 hours for the first gameplay), a generic story, a basic card game.
Honestly, for the time it lasted, it was also enjoyable to play. If it had lasted too long, it would have been boring.
It is up to you to decide whether it is worth spending your money for these few hours.

The game is based on card duels, with decks of exactly 30 cards. The cards have a power cost from 1 to 10, there is no limitation on the number of cards that can be played per turn. Cards are never discarded, nor is there a limitation on the number of cards in hand.
The power at the start of the turn is equal to the number of turns played but cannot exceed the value of 10. The power not used to play the cards is discarded.
Each card has an attack and hit point value and can have special abilities. There are 5 positions for each player to place cards. If during the attack phase one of your cards is in the same position as an enemy card, then the two cards collide, taking away their attack value from the other's hit points. If a card reaches zero hit points, it is eliminated from the battlefield.
If the cards do not collide, the hit points are removed from the opponent.
Whoever brings the opponent to zero hit points first wins the fight.


Defeat all the enemies following a fixed path, with increasing difficulty (but never impossible).
