Black screen, couldn't start

Story is I have Control on my old laptop, which ran the game fine. I got a new laptop, which has buffier specs. I installed Control on this one, but it only offers a black screen on start up and then another offer to close the game a few seconds later. I'm confused, as game files verification said that all files are validated.
Pls send help

Yeah, I'm in the bad habit of mucking around with game files before launching, moved all win7 and directx files to a backup folder, some other detritus too. Game launches to black screen and dies with exception code 0xc0000005 in d3d_rmdwin10_f.dll where it jumps from d3d_rmdwin10_f.dll!00007ffcf9fb6e91() Unknown to a null address and thus kills itself... =\ assuming I'm reading the correct stack trace and reading that stack trace correctly.

Some fixed it by forcing the game to specific cores (on Intel-CPU's just the performance cores) via ProcessLasso or the task manager.

Did you ever find a solution? My Log is showing d3d_rmdwin10_f.dll as the culprit for an issue I'm having.
