Afraid to play this game due to hard crashing
So I've played control on Playstation and on my old pc. This might be one of my favorite games in the last couple of years. I justed managed to build my dream computer. Right now I have a 4090 with amd Ryzen 7 9800x3d. I'm loving it. H

owever, first time I booted this up it hard crashed my computer requiring a full reboot and it seems this this is a existing issue. I really want to play but I don't want to have give myself anxiety every time the game stutters. Anyone had this happen and know a fix? Thanks in advance.

You most likely have a hardware problem. The game is just triggering it. That said, you could try the different direct Xs, turning silly ray tracing off, and making sure Vsync is on. I had the game crash/freeze a few times myself, but it had nothing to do with my PC.

Well there's no reason to worry about a crash and it sounds like it's just anxiety over your new computer. I have the same setup and the game doesn't crash and shouldn't crash as it's pretty stable. It definitely isn't supposed to be stuttering and can be played even without dlss and frame gen at 4k though I think it looks just fine with them on.

Perhaps just update your bios and gpu drivers and make sure everything is up to date. You can go into the settings tab for the game and verify game files perhaps but I'd imagine it should be fine.

If you are all up to dare then I would just try the game again. Sometimes games due crash but this game it's pretty rare so it shouldn't happen happen. Make sure to monitor your system temps. Hwinfo64 is a great free and non bloatware program. Make sure to enable expo in your bios too if you have good ram.
what do you mean by hard crash exactly?
My computer locked up and I had to manually power down my pc and reboot. The only thing that caused this to happen is control amd apparently this was an existing issue.

I'll go ahead and try to monitor the system. The rig is brand new and was delivered 2 weeks ago and everything has been updated. The one time it did crash obviously freaked me out a bit mostly because this is my first high end desktop. I did turn sync off but I'll toggle it back on.

Everything else seemed to run fine. I get 160+ fps on Stalker 2 with max settings no problem. Cyberpunk, Helldiver 2, and Horizon Forbidden West all ran flawless. Most of the time I'm playing at 1440 because I don't own a 4k monitor. So, it is mostly just anxiety of it happening again.
