Is there a way to turn off enemy encounters?
I realize that Control has some very generous accessibility settings like invulnerability, infinite ammo, one-shot kills, etc., but unfortunately I'm a huge baby. The game's atmosphere is already very spooky and I can't handle the getting attacked by dudes any time I'm searching rooms for collectibles or traversing the corridors. Is there a setting or perhaps a mod to turn off enemy encounters altogether? Or limit it to just main story encounters? Or at least prevent enemies from spawning in again after the first time I've cleared them out of an area?

Wouldn't you feel safer playing Word Cookies?

No.

Unfortunately not, and really, the combat doesn't add anything to the game imo.

OP, if I were you, I'd get the game, but turn on the assist mode immediately, and turn on invulnerability and one hit kills. You essentially ignore the combat, but still get the fun part of the exploration and the story.

The game really has an incredible atmosphere, so I'd say it's worth picking up for that alone.

Why don't you just watch a good movie if you hate playing games so much?

I asked because I like games and want to play this one?
I don't think anyone is going to bother making such a mod when you can already turn on a god mode, which you pointed out in your first sentence.
You couldn't take out the random encounters btw bosses, bkz they drop a lot of loot (weapon and personal upgrades, currency, etc) that you'll need if you're going to be strong enough to go after bosses -- tho it would be possible with the in-game immorality setting, I guess.
