Or use the precision gun (the 1 with 2 shots)
I already tried dodge/shield, but it doesn't help.
My strategy with these is to lift up some stuff, wait till it appears and instantly release to deal big damage. Also dash away at the same time to avoid his attacks.
Its not that hard when you can track it and youre prepared.
If you aren't worried about losing some of your upgrade points or time, and have a Control Point close by, you may just want to play around with a Distorted if they are the last thing alive. Not attacking them, but watching how they move, try to practice dodging their attacks, and so on. You'll probably die, yes, more than once and have to repeat the whole thing, but if you can get some practice in there, you won't have to worry about them as much later on.
Having the names is usually easier for people to be sure of which one you are talking about.
As for distorted, they have a decent vulnerability window when they appear for you to attack them, if you are prepping for them and are paying attention to where the filtered space is moving, you can be looking the right way and be ready to shoot when they appear. This sometimes interrupts them, but not every time, so it is usually better to just dash away from them and then start firing at them while their attack whifs.
And as someone above said, if you really keep your eye on the moving air, you can likely work out where they are and shoot at them while they are invisible. If you hit, you can break their invis and keep laying into them to finish them off.
Another method is to find larger furniture that launch can pick up and just telekentic things that are behind where you think the distorted is. If the furniture or trash is large enough and you are right about where the enemy is, then the launch object will hit the enemy as the item comes to your side, and then you will have your lock on to launch the object at the distorted for an easy double hit.
Basically, it's just a matter of getting used to the game. If you suspect you are fighting distorted, just be prepared to dash away from where it might appear because it's attack is very short range.
Oh, and if you find yourself in battle with them, keep moving a bit so they don't appear super close to you. It's easy, as you can see the distortion as they move around in their "invisible" state.
