The map in this game is horrible
Am I the only one really struggling with this? I find the readability terrible and constantly trying to figure out the best way to get to other areas. I have found the signage in the game world more reliable but thats only helpful when you are in the general proximity of your destination. It feels like its showing multiple levels of the building but no clear way to swap between them so its hard to tell what floor you are on and the sense of verticality is all thrown off

I rarely complain about stuff like this but its my biggest struggle with an otherwise amazing game. If there are some commands or buttons im not seeing that allow you to manipulate the map in the map screen im all ears, I dont see anything though

thanks!

I swear to god, you guys will say just about anything to defend the damn map for some bizarre reason. It's poorly designed, get over it.
this bizarre reason is called atmosphere, the guys who made Alan Wake to actually hold on ladder rungs know a lot about it. you won't understand, get over it

Bad map design being called atmosphere, you're right, I definitely don't understand that.

see? not understanding that this team doesn't make such "errors", especially in the map the player looks at constantly. get over it. go play dota, "sample" a bucket of beer, whatever you do for fun. don't play Control if the map is so bad, really

If you have a source where the dev team specifically said that was the intent, I'd love to see it.

I've also had a hard time with the Map. It's basically due to elevation. There are often times Multiple floors and it's difficult to tell which level you're on. Games like Metroid Prime had 3D maps as a solution. I agree with some others that the signs are helpful, but sometimes I'm in an area too far off for the signs to be helpful. Fast travel can help too though.

hmm... a source where it is said specifically for you... ok.

here is an imitation of ISO layout for floor plans: a frame, captions and such. it says the map is a plotted paper floor plan. since this is made by the dev team, I believe we can say that they tell us this specifically. good enough source for you?

Given that you havent linked anything that even remotely proves your point, I'm afraid not.
Did you link the wrong screenshot or something?

I dont see any problem with the map. i like to explore and get to know my way around. these days maps are catered to be easy for everyone but i like how controls map layout is.

control layout i understand having to be the smoothest and easiest transition possible for players, but an obtuse map in my opinion isn't a bad thing. just use landmarks in the level design to find your way around. yknow, like an actual map is used.

that's the point of this design. and all the complainers forget the ability to freely move while using the map for some reason
