Why does this game run so poorly?
I recently upgraded to a RTX 3090. Previously I had a dual 2080 ti set up. i7 processor, 144 hz monitor, the whole shibang. Every other game I own runs on ultra setting no less than 120 fps. This game, however, struggles to even start up. The title screen doesn't go over 15 fps unless I'm lucky. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out why this game in particular is, by no exaggeration, unplayable. Maybe I'm missing something...but quite frankly it's infuriating and I can't help but think this is an optimization issue with the steam port. Any and all feedback is welcome. For god's sake doom eternal runs at average 200 fps on my rig so what gives with Control Ultimate Edition?

More information needed. What are your graphic settings? Do you use DLSS? Raytracing? What resolution are you even playing on?

I'm also on a RTX 3090 and playing on everything maxed out including Raytracing. 4k and DLSS at 1440p. I have average around 70-90 fps.

I wish I could tell you the settings because I've fiddled with every one. DLSS on and off, I tried raytracing, turned it off, still ran like ♥♥♥♥. Can't tell you the resolution because it doesn't matter. Nothing gets me over 15 frames in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ menu. I've been trying everything for about 2 months now and nothing is improving the performance. *shrug*

Oh, forgot to mention, graphics on low. Minimal texture quality, whole 9 yards. Unplayable

Weird. Menu runs at 120 fps on my monitor. Maybe a driver issue? Eventually, disable Steam overlay. Do a DDU on you GPU driver an re-install it.

Unless you are trolling, there must be something wrong on your end. This game is not something I’d call well optimized but it shouldn’t be as bad as you describe. I run it pretty much maxed out at 1440p with DLSS and most ray tracing options on with 2080 super and I get decent performance.

maybe the store gives u the fake 3090, coz even with 3070 it runs at 90 fps at max setting raytracing on dlss on 1440p

There's got to be something going on on your end. I'm using a 3080, playing max settings at 1440p without any issue, whatsoever. Your 3090, everything else being equal, should easily do the same.

Yea my 2070 super runs this game maxed out at 1080p render and high rtx. I get 60fps consistently. I can run it at 1440p, but the fps dips down to 30-40 with high rtx.

Do a clean install of video drivers. Also set your graphics to max. I found out that games prioritize cpu usage when graphical quality is lower, meaning your cpu is getting more of the load and doing more work.

Download GeForce Experience and change your settings from their, also download the lastest driver from GE. Should fix any setting issue you have. Plus GE give a recommended setting preset based on your hardware. This game is amazing and i just beat it.

I am having the same problem (on Gamepass though, not Steam).

very frustrating,

Gamepass version is bugged / broken atm. They've acknowledged it but haven't provided a workable fix yet.

I just started playing and the game runs at 100 frames or more for me most of the time with cranked settings (Max ray tracing and DLSS enabled) on a 3090 with a 21:9 2k monitor. I don't use geforce experience. My only recommendation is to do a clean graphics driver install.

I would hope the 3090 could run it without DLSS. That makes the game blurry with the lower resolution.

As I said earlier my 2070 Super runs it maxed out with RTX full minus shadows and debris @ 1080p and no DLSS. I tried it with DLSS on and off. While I can max everything with DLSS on it lowers resolution below 1080p and looks a bit blurry. With it off it looks a bit better honestly, but most probably don't notice if they are just running and gunning. When I do 2k though it looks WAY better than with DLSS on, but I only get 28-35 fps. I am sure the 3000x RTX cards should be able to run it without DLSS.

*Edit* I just noticed the 21:9 so that's like super widescreen never mind. With a normal 4k a 3090 should max out the game. Heck a 3080 or 3070 should be able to max it out at 4k since the 2080ti gets close.

Dont let people call you crazy there is some sort of problem with this game something that makes it run like absolute dog regardless of what hardware that you use. I noticed this on my 1080 build (just upgraded) the game was completely unplayable and I could not get it to work.
