Should all cutscenes have a tear?
All of the cutscenes in the game seems to have a screen tear in them:

The weird thing is that the tearing stays, even if i pause the video, but when i look up the same video on youtube there doesn't seem to be any tearing.
Does anyone know how to fix this or if this is by design? I didn't notice it until after i picked up "Hotline".
I've also tried to uninstall and install the game again.

It's a problem with recent Nvidia drivers. There's an entry on pcgamingwiki for it. You can use nvidia profile inspector to disable resizable bar for the game and the videos will play normally again. (I just did so last night - fixed it.)

I should probably also add that the tear doesn't move. It's always in the exact same place, regardless of what resolution I have.

vsync on?
Yup. I've tried with both on and off. There's never any issues outside of the cutscenes. I've even tried to enable Vsync in Nvidia Control Panel.

Last I heard nvidia had added that issue to their known issues to be fixed list for drivers.

Guess they haven't gotten around to it yet.

Thank you so much! I already did that before to solve a stuttering issue, but seems like it got reset for some reason. I changed it again and everything looks perfect.

Hopefully they'll hurry up as there's probably more games with this issue. Or at least they should promote the solution.

You're welcome! Changes made with Inspector get reset every time you update the driver. To Seamus' point - I also read that someone got their ticket with Nvidia to the point where they took it into their known issues list but I haven't seen it listed in the driver release notes so far.

Meanwhile Dead Space remake is much worse off than Control: ReBar is broken in the game with the latest driver to the point where it crashes the game at various points. Same fix there. Nvidia seem to be having a not-so-good streak right now.

Cheers,
M

Feels like Nvidia drivers are constantly causing issues with this one. First psychedelic rainbows, now tearing. Is there a driver version that was running smoothly at all? lol

Haha, yeah, it's definitely been a bumpy couple months now. The game was running fine like, back in march. There was a reference on pcgamingwiki to the last driver version that was working right with Control, but that has been replaced with the workaround of disabling Rebar. Nvidia drivers have been quite troublesome ever since last October. There's a bug, where nvapi becomes unavailable in Windows, leading to no sensors being available on the card and it running only in its basic power state. You can't game with that. I reckon it's more pronounced on my system because I'm also on AM5 which in itself is from from a mature platform... ah, well, the joys of PC gaming. :steamhappy:
This helped me as well, thank you!
Appears this issue has finally been fixed (it's bee around since April 2023).
