Starting the game - DirectX 11 or 12?

Why do I need to select which one I want to use EVERY TIME I start the game?

Wouldn't it be I pick one and from there on in, it is used.
If I want to change it, there is an option at/in the first screen that allows me to change it.

It just seems weird that I pick one - because my machine can handle it (or can't) - and I keep getting asked subsequently.

Use one of the launch options -dx11 or -dx12 to skip the launcher and start the game directly in either Direct X 11 or Direct X 12.

If -dx11 or -dx12 don't work (they randomly don't for some people, I'm not sure why), you can try an alternate launch option.

"Control_DX11" -run %command%

This will instruct steam on which specific exe to run. Works for skipping launchers in stuff too. Just change the 11 to 12 if you want dx12.

Thanks both, but I am a windows NOVICE.

I double click on the desktop icon.
So I don't know how to do what you are saying.

Right click on the game in your steam library and then click properties.

The launch options line will be at the bottom of the box that pops up.
