Game ALWAYS crashes in Foundation DLC astral plane challenge
So, when I got my new rig, I decided to replay control. Game was fairly stable with a random crash occurring every now and then, but it was no big deal.

Then I get to the Foundation DLC, and specifically to the astral plane challenge where you get to choose the ability to either destroy or grow the crystal formations, and I CANNOT get through the section without the game freezing and crashing.

I have: RTX 3080, 32 GB ram, core i9. Windows 11.

I did everything conceivable to fix the problem: Reinstalled the game, Launched in DX 11, disabled RT, Disabled HDR, put graphics on low, etc, etc. but nothing helps. The game reliably crashes at one point before I can make it to the end of the tutorial. Tech Support was no help.

Anyone else get this? Did anyone find a solution?

Yeah, that'd be one of the ones with e cores.

Try disabling the e cores in your bios. That helps with a surprisingly high number of games. Shouldn't be too hard to find a guide for your motherboard manufacturer with a quick google search.

Which i9?

A lot of games that haven't gotten recent updates have issues with the e-cores on the newer intels.

Woah man, you're my hero! I went into BIOS, set number of e-cores to 0 and BAM - got through the section on first go. You have no idea how long I was digging around the internet for a solution. Thanks for this info!

Downsides to new architecture.

Enjoy the foundation challenges.

I'm also stuck at this point in the game. I have no idea how to turn off e-cores. I have no idea how to alter bios is either. Could anyone advise please? I've tried a search on the internet for instructions and also YouTube for a video with no luck. Nothing I can understand anyway. I'm a total technophobe!!
I have an i7-12700k.

I found out how to turn e-cores off in bios. After doing that my pc wouldn't boot up fully!! No mouse, keyboard or monitors. I had to take it round to a friend who went through things systematically. Turned out that by unplugging the memory sticks and plugging them back in the pc booted up fully. Set my e-cores back to original. Won't be trying anything like that again in a hurry!!!

So many people are having those crashes related to the foundation DLC. Not unspecific or hardware related. But only in specific areas (e.g. Crossroads) in the foundation DLC. Still the support always focuses on user/hw specific solutions which won't work if it has to do with those specific areas in the foundation DLC. Though it seems to be more intel related rather than AMD... still it had to work on Intel.... lol...

I also desperately need help. Support couldn't help me ...

Obviously, tweaking the BIOS requires some degree of computer savviness, DO NOT go in there changing stuff if you have no idea what you're doing. In this case however, PC gaming might not be the way to go for you, as it requires some degree of troubleshooting here and there. If you don't want that, get a console - it comes with its limitations, but you won't need to spend much time tinkering with stuff.

Thanks ever so much for the condescending advice, really appreciated, obviously!

Considering you managed to prevent your system from booting by trying to turn off the ecores, I'd say it's pretty justified.

Sorry if it came off condescending, it was not my intention. Look, it's completely OK to not want to go through all this stuff just to play a game, but it comes with the territory, especially with older games/newer hardware. If you just want to game without any of the hassle, get a console which can either run a game or not and that's it. You'll likely save some money too, as new PC gaming hardware is generally more expensive.

FYI it crashes just as before. Tried everything and no dice......
Sent yet another ticket to 505games support....

If anyone is still having this issue, you can turn off the E-core in task manager without going to bios. Downside is you have to do it every time you boot the game. Fixed the problem on my 3080/i9 setup
