how do i start, the dlc or where to look for the dlc

Check your install size first.

If it's roughly 50gb, you have standard edition and don't have the dlc.

i dont have the standard edition i have the ultimate edition

The DLC is automatically active, all one needs to do is enter the Central Executive Elevator lift and select Investigations for AWE or the Foundation and enter from the base of the Quarry. You'll know you're starting AWE because you will have visions of Alan Wake from the hotline. The Foundation you need to talk to the board, they will inform you they've unlocked the Foundation and where to enter. The Entrance is where you look for Ahti.

I also have the Ultimate Edition but my install is ~47gb and the DLC definitely aren't active. Looks like Remedy pulled the DLC from the Steam Store which may have pulled them from the Ultimate Edition install too. Not super happy about this cause I'd love to play more Control and also 100% the achievements which isn't possible without the DLC.

Okay, not sure how you ended up with 47gb considering ultimate edition is 42.83gb and standard is 49.58gb.

Regardless of what your library says for the game title, if your game isn't 42.83gb you don't have ultimate edition.

I did some digging and it looks like if you get it through Humble you don't get the full version, just the standard game. Might be the same thing happened to you.

This was a little confusing at first. I didn't even realize the AWE branch was DLC until I finished the game. From what I read, the Foundation DLC doesn't start until after the end of the regular game.

Which, by the way, was difficult to actually identify at first. I was like, am I at the end now? Apparently, the answer was no more than once lol.

Are people claiming that the ultimate edition on the steam store is in fact NOT the ultimate edition? Then why hasn't steam fixed this? Because the store says I already own this

if the ultimate edition on the store is in fact NOT the ultimate edition, then how can it be purchased? Is it simply not available on steam store? What's going on?

If you buy it from Steam it is the Ultimate Edition, but if you bought the code for steam from Humble Bundle years ago during choice, or possible today if they still have the old game codes; which they will have in fine print notification. Then it would not include the DLC.
