Internet Connection Required -- Humble Choice Edition
The game did not list that it required a constant Internet Connection. I had gotten the game from Humble Bundle, which at the time I was told was the Ultimate Edition, (Apparently not true which they later changed) but at least I have it to enjoy when the internet craps out. Just 50 mins ago my internet crashed for awhile, so I tried to launch Control. Only to find out the game becomes unresponsive at the start screen if it is launched without an active internet connection. While trying to figure out what was happening my Network eventually reconnected, so after ALT+F4ing out of the game I figured out what was happening. Tested my hypothesis a few times with and without an active Network to find that yes the game will disable all inputs at the start screen till it it launched with an active Internet connection.

Just a WARNING for anybody who bought this Single Player Game expecting a good experience.

Jesus, really? That's the issue? I thought it was a bug with borderless windowed or something. Well, that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks...

Ah - that would explain the extra 14 gigs.

Denuvo, perhaps?
Ryan Fenton Mar 6, 2021 @ 12:30pm
...and if it's Denuvo... man, that's installing a barn door on a barn like several months after all the cows had already left.

And it's a very expensive barn door to install too, for a game you're trying to promote to a new audience - most of whom take many, MANY points off a game for having badly implemented DRM on a single-player game.

According to one of the pinned threads, this was meant to be fixed to be playable offline MONTHS ago. I encourage everyone to submit bug reports to try and get this looked at.

has anyone managed to get a substantive dev response on this? This is the first I've heard about an online requirement, and it's utterly absurd if true.
Ryan Fenton Mar 6, 2021 @ 4:32pm
That, and there's obvious copies in existence that don't have such requirements.

Console copies for one.

It's so strange for management at these companies to think that in an era of massive internet and power and pandemic issues, that asking PC player who pay for their games to be the ONLY ones that suffer the consequences of any hickups in their internet connection with a game that shuts itself off.

On a single-player game.

This constant punishment of your own customers is absurd - but in the waste of resources you put into making developers work on it, and in how far you go to hamstring your own audience.

People CAN play your game without paying for it, and get a better product - when that's the case, that means you've majorly screwed up your own product, and only for your own paying customers.

It makes existing customers not want to put any effort supporting your DLC either.

Does seem to be the case, stuck on "press enter" whenever I try running the game offline. Did they revert to an older build of the game for the non-Ultimate version or something?

Its listed as Ultimate for me also humble bundle monthly key.
I havent tried playing it without internet but its got horrible input delay, i wonder if input is tied to that

Indeed, can't get past the start screen when Steam is in offline mode. Epic version works fine.

And yet it sells on gog...complete version. They released a watered down minus DLC version on Steam, they want us to pay $16 to "upgrade" to the full version and it is always online or bust....I'd have given away the key had I seen this train wreck coming...

But alas, Humble doesn't care and these Devs/Publishers don't care...They give us a glorified demo and lock it up with always online...Thanks....<sarcasm>

Is this solved?

Not yet

If they didn't add the offline mode, it probably means the game is lacking all the patches/updates launched after the one that allowed u to play offline.

Probably a good idea to submit a request on their support page( https://support.505games.com/hc/en-us/requests/new ) asking for the feature, and the patches that weren't included on the standard version.

Thanks i sended them a ticket. I do not know if they will listen but this should not have happened in the first place.

Even if you buy the DLC, you don't get the full version. This appears to be abandoned and IMSHO a "demo" as it won't get updates. If we could have upgraded for a small fee, they might have had some leeway, but why give this demo in a bundle. We are better off without the game than this mess...

That's not even remotely what a demo is.
