Pierce is one of the strongest weapons in terms of single target damage.Although pierce only got useful imho after I got a custodial readyness mod who reduces the cd between shots (-100 on mine). The rest is +damage on pierce or damage while aiming in lack of +damage mods.
If you can manage explosives then use the weapons with those. They will harm yourself though in close combat.
Because I kept harming myself with explosive amunition guns, I´m using spin but that one is only useful with better mods than you got and pierce.
Once launch needs recharging I´m using the weapon and the other way around. Ofc shield and dodge to get away from groups. Or if you like to fight groups up close you could use shatter. It really all depends on your play style. Rockets and granades can be returned to the sender via launch. With rockets that needs good timing though.
First I skilled health and launch.
Personal mods I used where health, launch efficiency and energy recovery until I found a 10 % launch health recovery who I dropped launch efficiency for.
No wonder you're having trouble - those mods are really underleveled for where you're up to. You're going to need to take some time to go around and do sidequests, alerts, countermeasures, and just running around the map triggering random Hiss attacks to get better mods.
For comparison, here's what I'm running around with right now (same Forms for comparison) as well as my ability loadout:

Take some time and just grind better mods and Service Weapon upgrades - get those on board and the game shouldn't be as much of a struggle.
Thank you very much.
Could you recommend particular areas I should go back to ? I have been trying to go back and roam around randomly. It hasn't been very useful so far. I found only one sidequest. I also used the jukebox to go this area, forgot how it's called, I died dozens of times in there.
Many thanks.
When I change from grip, I almost always get killed. I also have pierce but it does not service me very well.
Thank you.
The Jukebox, with that loadout? Yeah, that's not survivable without turning assists on. Usually I just do laps of either Central Executive or Research until some Hiss turn up. It's a bit time-consuming, but you should start getting better quality mods and the resources to upgrade your Service Weapon.
As for sidequests, talk to other NPCs - Ahti's definitely going to have a couple for you, and Emily and Arish may have one or two for now. Plus you pick some up when you read documents. Do some exploring, especially now you have Levitate and can access areas you couldn't before.
Here's a link to a guide on getting a unique mod for Grip to get you started: https://gameranx.com/features/id/179595/article/control-get-an-unlimited-ammo-mod-with-this-hidden-furnace-easter-egg/
Thank you so much for your help man. Much obliged.
