Lost save progress?
Hey, I posted this on the Reddit page first hoping to get some answers but I didn't find any. I see some discussion about this from a few months ago, but nothing recent.

For context, I just started playing this weekend and my game hard crashed after I tried to look at gun mods at a checkpoint I cleared. I booted the game back up and found I had lost maybe an hour or twos worth of progress. Now, I see some people have lost like up to eight hours progress, which is insane and I guess in that context I should feel lucky - but this is still super annoying.

I see some solutions about editing save files or something? But I don't really trust myself to do that, I can't find the save files anywhere through Steam anyway and why is that even needed?

Like I think this is ridiculous, the restrictive checkpoint system in the game feels really outdated anyway but if the checkpoints can hard crash and seemingly corrupt my save file, that is just madness. Hasn't this been out for a year?

Are they going to fix this? This is clearly a common enough issue. I was really enjoying the game, but I haven't dared play it again since that happened as I have no guarantee it won't crash in the same place and make me lose even more progress.

This thread will help.

Also, If you try and continue a game and it says you will lose progress. Just exit the game and steam. Relaunch Steam, than Control, and should be able to continue with no loss of progress.

I wish you luck, Dendron. I lost my save that I was quite far into. None of the fixes worked for me, though. I lost everything. Control points, materials, skills, everything. Ironically, the only two things I didn't lose was being able to pick a mission and what level I was. Neither of which were of any use without everything else.

Hope you can save yours. It put me off finishing the game for a long time.

And for any devs that might happen to read this... If you make your game with only one save slot, please leave the industry entirely. You're scum.

What I find really bizarre is it looks like when this happens, it literally wipes your whole account. I redid some of what I lost this morning and I reunlocked achievements I had already unlocked for doing those things already. That is crazy scary to think about. A corrupt save file is one thing, but completely erasing account wide progress is insane?

Achievements are not stored locally. So if you previously unlocked them and lost game progress. They would still be unlocked and not have to be obtained again.

I think you are confusing this with the achievement tracker. You will get a pop up notifying you of how much of that achievement you did, but the achievement is not unlocked until fully completed. Like killing 1000 HISS. The tracker will show how many you have killed out of the 1000 until you fully obtain it. Which is also not stored locally. You can check that in your achievement list and it will show you what you have done so far to unlock the achievements.

Go over the thread I posted above to backup from a previous save and hopefully avoid any further issues with your progress.
