Can't beat the training course

Twice now I've beaten the training course in the sense that I completed it before the timer ran out, but both times the final door wouldn't unlock, so I couldn't officially finish in time. On the second run I made sure to complete every single obstacle (including some I could otherwise skip while still passing the individual stages). I've checked two walkthroughs and neither of them mentions this problem. What am I missing?

The final door? Which one the big garage door that you see open when you first enter the room or the one right after two pillars rise out of the floor?

I've been trying to go through the door next to the garage door, the human-sized one with the lights over it.

You're supposed to go to the RIGHT, cleanse the altered item and fight some bad guys on the way back.

Yeah, what you're doing is actually exiting the course and returning to the start point by doing that.

This. I repeatedly made the mistake of not going through the whole process and was surprised why I could not finish. Reaching the door is not enough.

Okay, I did it. I get now what you mean by "turn right" but the whole course is right turns and that confused me at first. In retrospect, this should have been more obvious than it was: When you press the button, an enormous garage door rolls up on the other side of the glass, and that's where you're supposed to go. I never noticed that because every time I pressed the button I immediately ran over to the starting door to buy myself an extra second or so. I never noticed the thing that was right in front of me.
