so ... how difficult is this game?
usually, before buying a game I tend to read negative reviews about it. So there seems to be a problem with with playing it offline - and announcement that it will be fixed in a few days. So far so good. I also read something about that this game is really hard, brutally so. Is it true? I don't want to spend 30 bucks just to be stuck after 10 minutes into the game and giving up in frustration a few hours later. Some feedback if this can be played with average skill would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

It's not impossibly hard. It can actually be pretty easy in some instances. I'm like 12-13 hours in and my telekinesis one-shots most basic enemies and wipes the shields off some of the tougher enemies. But it all has to do with how quickly you react to things. Shielding yourself, running behind cover, etc. You can die within two seconds if you don't pay attention and take a missile to the face. It definitely can be played with average skill.

I'm currently 13 hours in and just finished chapter 7 and I don't think it's too difficult so far. Many encounters can be made easier by making good use of cover. You can aim around the cover while the enemy can't hit you. I focused on upgrading health and the launch ability. Launch is pretty OP once maxed out.

This game is not hard.
If you upgrade your telekineses imediately to its fullest you will almost oneshot every normal enemy.

It started out easy, but then I spent my points on the worst possible weapon forms, that are completely useless, so now I'm stuck. And despite having health upgraded to the maximum, most enemies take 90% of my health with one hit. Bug or feature I wonder, because until now the game was pretty easy, then it suddently became impossibly hard.

I almost always play games on medium difficulty and there are some encounters in this game I consider to be quite difficult. However, in my opinion, this game is totally worth it. It's extremely rewarding when you beat a challenging foe, and there's so many ways to configure your character's abilities that there's probably better ways to tackle obstacles than I've tried.

It's as hard as you want it to be. You can adjust a lot of things in the gameplay options menu (aim assist, damage taken, energy or ammo recovery times). My character takes a bit too much damage for my taste, so I reduced it and now I have a lot of fun.

As long you are aware of your surroundings and keep a distance as well, the game is easy enough. I played it on the ps4 and im terrible with a controller but still managed all the boss fights and hordes of enemies.
As others stated, as long you are on the move, use your powers, you will be fine.
I keep switching to flinging things and pistol often.

Enemies do insane amounts of damage while your weapons often don't do all too much at all if you forget to upgrade them. Later on you get powers and guns, but really if you just dump your points into TK throw then you are going to steamroll everything. Multi throw makes the game trivial.

The default difficulty seems well balanced. You can do everything but its difficult enough that Jesse's abilities mean something.

I suspect the problem is that there is no simple, built-in, difficulty setting (e.g. novice, hard, impossible). You can adjust all the difficulty settings manually in the options, but its easily missed. However there are tool-tips which should help.

It picks up towards the end. It gets challenging, but not frustratingly hard (IDK, I'm almost about to wrap up Foundation, and I swear I play it more like Doom Eternal than in the story :P). I've died more times than I would imagine in a game like this, but it also has that right amount of piss me off that makes me determined to get through instead of rage quit.

I felt the shotgun(Shatter) was useless until just about an hour prior to this message.
I picked up a mod that entirely removes the projectile spread, and now....it'll take a shielded enemy down with two shots, short to mid-range.

Also...revisit areas to farm materials/element(currency). I still have a ton of missions to do, yet almost all my weapons are fully upgraded. In all honesty...it's not really "farming" if you're just running around trying to do missions, and stuff spawns along your intended route....which has been the case for the most part, for me.

Hang in there.

I'm given to understand that the game has a scaling difficulty, so the longer you go without dying, the harder it gets until you do die. I don't know why the devs would do things like that, but they did.

It feels pretty old school to me in terms of gameplay and difficulty. Do you remember the first two Max Payne games? I would say it´s on this level. More difficult than other AAA games these days but definitely manageable.

In the beginning it is quite difficult. I would say until the first 5 main missions. After that you have enough skill points and mods/equipment to not have to fear every attack and you end up in a moderately difficult or moderately easy game.

I claim that the biggest difficulty can be the map orientation. And later the jukebox missions. They are really tight.

The base game is pretty easy except one endgame boss and maybe the archives waves. The jukebox stuff is super hard. These are for people who love the gameplay enough to bother.

The difficulty here comes from being a glass cannon. But as long as you move and dish out dmg.. nothing can stop you here.
