I would have refunded the game immediately and bought it from EGS or GOG on sale if I didn't get it via key from Greenmangaming. I was so focused on finding the best deal that I forgot to check to see if it had any issues.
I'm not paying for the same game twice, so I'm just waiting for Remedy to fix this, which, given that the Epic store version of the game also suffered the same issue some time ago and they responded with a update rollback and apology, I have faith they will........hopefully.
Really though, the worst part for me is the level of derision some players have for people who are complaining about this as if online requirements for single player games is not only okay, but anyone who has a problem with it is just being an idiot or an entitled baby.
One of the most popular negative reviews for the game had a reply that basically said "Well if it doesn't work offline, then just go online."
I truly think this mentality may be a result of the contentious Epic vs Steam fan battle, again exemplified by a review of Control which literally just have double middle fingers saying "F*ck you Epic!", leading to steam fans blindly defending any shortcomings of the Steam version release that may make epic look better.
For one final review reference, someone literally said in defense of the non-functional offline mode, and I was amazed by this, that Steam is an online focused platform, and if you want to play Control offline, just go torrent it. Yes, because Pirating the game is the answer and should be encouraged.
Yeh, also even there are GOG alternative coming up (and another alternativeavailable), a disparity between different stores regarding being able to play a single playere game (with no online features to boot with) offline should not be dictated at which store you bought it.
Sometimes I bring my rig over to a friend to plug into the tv (with no WiFi or Ethernet Cable access) and we enjoy playing gaqmes, taking turns wioth that and just talking and unwinding...
We were both pretty stoked to get CONTROL running, which is now become a "meh" sentiment...
I really hope the devs will / can / are willing to fix that.
Hooray for unnecessary steam features...

Would have been nice if this was from the get go, but alas... I'd rather take a patched version than abandonware...
PATCH NOTES
* Control can now be played offline on Steam.
* Removed redundant developer info from the window title bar
* AWE content and opening mission will unlock properly when importing save files from the Epic Games Store version of the game.
* Fixes to Japanese localization
* The Foundation: Fixed a bug that could potentially prevent players from completing side missions
You mean the topic I *gasp* linked to in my latest comment... you don't say... Though until the issue is not resolved, it is not a title I would install right now if the patch can't be deployed either...
Cool, literally wait like 3 days
That might not be an option for some and thus still a valid warning.
Did they watch the video tape from the Ring or something?
Or maybe have a forced trip with no constant internet access, or internet access for only exorbitant prices. i.e. if you are working for the Navy the internet service while underway is rudimentary.
And still, if a SINGLE PLAYER with NO ONLINE FUNCTIONS requires an internet connection, that is shady as it can get.
But keep your cringy comments coming :)
Bruh that was a joke.
And they're fixing it. Not sure what else there is to say.
Dude you jumped in, I literally just said (more or less), wait for the patch and don't buy if you can't deploy it, I am eager to play that game myself. From my POV, we are good.
