PC Specs, CPU Ryzen R9 3900X, 32GB RAM, GPU Gigabyte RTX2080 Super OC, the game is installed in a Crucial P1 NVMe SSD. I'm going to try clone the game files into a regular HDD to see what happens.
Funny thing is that I played the game when it released like a year ago and finished it at 100%, the version didn't come with any DLC or DLSS implemented. Played it with an Asus Strix GTX970 OC on my old PC at 1080p, never had a single issue with texture streaming, perhaps the only thing that I remember to see is pictures on the wall always needed a second to load (like in your picture here), but not the entire textures in the world itself as of now.
It is unplayable in this state but I'm going to see if there is a solution. But sure this is a bug that needs to be fixed by the developers.
The issue was my NVMe drive. Something about the game engine seems unable to deal with the read/write speeds of an NVMe SSD because as soon as I moved the game onto a mechanical drive the issue disappeared completely and got replaced with regular pop-in that took a second at most to resolve.
I have no idea why this happened but I hope this helps at least more than just me.
Going to try moving the game to a SATA SSD now and see if that helps the pop-in without re-breaking the textures.
EDIT: SATA SSD still has pop-in issues at 1440p on an RTX 2070 Super but it's honestly so much less bad than playing the game in PS1 Texture Mode that I'm not going to spend too much time worrying about it.
I'll miss DLSS 2.0 and RTX features since you can't have those in DX11 but I can play at 4K downsampling to 2k (1440p) while looking slightly blurry, but everything maxed still getting solid 60FPS.
So much for the "Ultimate Edition"...
PS: Tried in a regular SSD and it was the same, it made no difference from NVMe (2.000MB/s) to regular SSD (500MB/s).
Played for 3 hours straight in DX11 all maxed at 4K downsampled to 2K for the frames obviously (RTX2080 Super), and not a single texture streaming issue. The game now plays the same way it did a year ago. Sometimes the only thing that you see loading are the pictures on the walls if you are not so close to them, but it is the only thing. All textures in the world are loading without issues in DX11.
As I said before, not having DLSS 2.0 is a shame because it ran better than downsampling and Ray Tracing was not an option unless you don't care that much abour frame rates. So yeah...DX12 is broken in this game. Even I can tell that shadows and some particle effects are not working properly in DX12 compared to DX11.
I had noticed this with the pictures, but I thought it was just one of the settings that downgrades images that you are not close to.
my card is just a 1660 OC 6GB, so playing with the specs on medium. I'll try playing in DX11 though.
Yeah, give it a try with DX11 you just miss what you can't really use. Even I with a powerful enough GPU can't enjoy those features entirely and trust me...the game will be the same but you are going to forget about the issues. Just play and enjoy. ;)
Yeah same here, the game worked well with that old build but DLSS was garbage since image quality was so much degraded compared with the new DLSS 2.0...Now it is unplayable in this state with DX12. Such a shame. But I repeat it again...DX11 and forget about it. The game is awesome, hope they can deliver a patch to make those things work properly again.
Why you play on medium if you could easly play on ultra? I have the same card and play on maxed out.
Higher frame rates my guy.
