What do the arrows mean when placing doors?
I assumed the arrows when placing doors indicated which way the door would open. I am trying to place a door that opens into the room (which is the normal way doors open), but no matter which way the arrow points the doors always open outward (into the hall).

Update: It appears that doors always open either to towards the right side of the screen or the top of the screen depending upon orientation. It appears that the arrows have no meaning.

Don't arrows during placement indicate where you can't place another object as a sim needs to stand in that space to use the object? (btw what are the little people called in this game? :D )

Yes, that is true for objects so you can see how the item must be oriented and how much space it requires. It doesn't apply to doors. By definition, you know where to stand for doors and if objects will block the door. The game doesn't even care if you block the door with a water cooler.

The arrow on the door isn't fixed. It changes as you move the cursor, first pointing one direction, then pointing in the opposite direction. This would seem to indicate the arrow is there to indicate which way the door will open, but this isn't the case.
