Expanding Rooms
If I expand a room beyond its original borders (by removing a wall and building a new wall covering the expanded area), how can I be sure the characters will interact in the expanded area. The expanded area is just black and does not indicate the room has expanded to cover that area (for character interaction). So, how can the border of a particular room, already in place, be expanded to show the expanded area is now part of that room?

Bet you figured it out already, but if not:

You switch between the modes with F5-F8 keys or by selecting the icon on the top. To define rooms you go to management view (F6?) and selecting the room type. (There are also tutorials)

Rooms are not necessarily closed by walls. You could for instance extend an on call room to the corridor and place a bench/chair or a book shelve, which then will be used by the staff. I use it often to safe room and for looks.

Sorry, I don't follow you. The F5, F6 & F8 keys don't do anything. I know how to make a new room from the pre-configured/equipped rooms. But if, either before or after I place the room, I want to expand it to cover more area, how is that done? Perhaps I did not look far enough into the tutorials or on the internet, but I also do not know how to design a room from scratch, jut putting down the dimensions then filling it our with equipment.

Either select "management mode" or depress the F7 key; i.e., <F7> .

Select the department where the room is located that you wish to modify.

Select the type of room you wish to modify either from the "clinic" or "hospitalization" choices.

If you want to increase the size of the room, begin by placing the cursor within the current room boundary and then drag to wherever you wish to expand it.

If you want to decrease the size of the room, I usually use the "remove rooms" tool. This removes the room type that is in place, but does not delete the objects you have bought. I then just create the smaller room size and adjust the placement of objects in order to fit the smaller room size.

As far as making a room from scratch, you can hover over the room types, it will give you a brief description and also the minimum room size required. Yes, basically what you stated: putting down the dimensions and filling it with equipment.

A guide of objects/equipment requirements can be found here:

Thanks loads. Would have never figured that out. Now, I can go back & make some proper adjustments with several rooms I added in the past.

One other question. If I have a corridor, which is only one space wide (limited by the space boundary at the edge of the property) & the corridor goes around a corner (at a right angle) to another corridor, also only one space wide, can a nurse with a stretcher traverse that corner? I won't have any furniture or equipment in the corridors, perhaps only some pictures/posters.

The corridors only matter for janitors priorities to cleaning it. Anyone can go through a corridor even if different departments.

One isle is enough for anyone, even with a stretcher, to go through. Even doors. Lot of prefabs are set with 2 swinging/ sliding doors, but only needs one. There doesn't actually seem to be any benefit to two doors even, it's just aesthetics.

I wouldn't even be surprised if that one aisle hallway, if you placed a chair, if the chair doesn't turn red or yellow that there's still room for a stretcher. Never tried it myself though.

Thanks. Before your response, I decided on a two space hallway. Figured if a patient collapses in the hallway, wanted to make sure a stretcher could get through, even if two spaces were not necessary.
