How many Operating Rooms?
In fully operational hospital with all DLC how many operating rooms should I have? I did 2 per department and it was over kill but I don't want to do too little and create backlog.

It really depends on the number of patients per day. But normally, you don't necessarily have to have a lot. One or two in the general surgery department, one in orthopedics and usually that's enough for me.

I've made one for each department that can operate (all assigned to general surgery), but it seems that I need to increase number of surgery teams. Now 1 have 1 day and 1 night team for each department.

The hospital I'm building at the moment is designed to work well with four or even five insurance companies, three ambulances and a helicopter, as well as to be able to cope with events. I have space for eight ORs, which seems like a lot, but that's also because of the departments I plan to open.

I'll build two ORs each for general surgery, cardiology and traumatology, one for ortho and one spare. I'm not going to open neurology in this hospital but I do have internal medicine open, which doesn't use ORs at all. At the moment, surgery and IM are running and 2 ORs work very smoothly.

The eight ORs may not all be in use all the time, I could manage with less, but when three ambulances suddenly arrive with some really unstable cardio or trauma patients at the same time as a crash event the extra capacity is nice to have! Each department will have enough staff to be able to use all their assigned ORs, day and night, and it's possible cardio or trauma may get a third dayshift team.

I recommend having excess capacity - when I only had two, I ended up with huge backlogs after a while, because my teams would be waiting for an OR to be cleaned. I have four now. Works smoothly - as soon as my team are ready, patient can go straight into one of them - and I have enough capacity for when I get more patients
