I'd love to have a huge waiting room/check in desk for the entire hospital on the 1st floor, then maybe have small nurse station at each department for patient referrals.
If I have a waiting room shared between 2 departments I just zone it half and half.
I tried massive waiting rooms early on and found people would sometimes have to walk far to the room they needed slowing down things considerably.
Not if your rooms surround the waiting area.

As you can see, the waiting room looks like a large single room/corridor, but consitst of waiting room zones from alle 5 departments+the lab department.
