Struggling with last missions on overwhelming ? Here's a few tip
I was like you until I understood the weakness of my flesh. Or any flesh really. Or bones if you're playing Loth. Magic is the name of the game here boys.

So here's 10 tips :

1 - Start from scratch. Just replay the campaign, don't try yo salvage a most likely dead run. Play on worthy because there's more xp. You're unlikely to struggle on worthy tbh. Especially following these tips.
2 - XP. Get it. As much as you can. The game will actually tell you once you've reached the maximum for a scenario, for a specific character. So you're gonna min max. Focus heroes that have magic related unique traits (30% spell damage, destruction magic or magic res)
3 - Focus on getting any competence related to magic. More specifically target magic that's also given to you by your troops, or channeling. For instance, creation's... decent at crowd control, but that's pretty much it. So if you're playing Rana, it's not too much of a bad bet because you have those turtles that can have their essence boosted and thus bring you 12 essence per turn. As Loth though, just pass since you'll be focusing destruction and arcane. Reaching level 8 and 16, get anything related to essence.
4 - Don't waste competences. By that I mean command isn't your priority, it's more like padding. Can't get channeling or destruction/arcane magic ? Unless you've got a good reason, take command.
5 - Split your troops. More troops = more essence = more spells. One-man stacks are extremely strong.
6 - Bonuses. You have to understand the difference between a bonus that lasts a battle or two, and a permanent one. Once a map is under control, take your heroes to every single point of interest that gives you permanent bonuses. No matter the bonus. If you're lazy, then focus on getting magic damage, movement and magic res.
7 - Trade. New settlement ? Get a trading post in there. You need those rare ressources for high tier units and upgrades.
8 - Maps are divided by difficulty. To get to a new part of the map that's harder, you need to beat a huge stack. Don't, unless you know there's no danger or you've already cleared the easier side of the map. Those stacks protect you from the enemy. Example : Loth campaign, top of the map, Barya's lying in wait and MAN, are they strong. Especially Everthink and is natural 40% spell resistance + brutes that have 50% too. But he won't cross unless he's killed the dragon stack. So leave it there and clear the rest of the map
9 - Don't rush. Unless you've reached a point where you don't think you'll gt much stronger in a few turns(3 destruction, 3 channeling, 3 arcana and high essence units for instance), keep farming.
10 - Settlements are made to be lost. Yes, it is frustrating. But losing a settlement means winning a few turns. Put them to good use.

On my first time trying Loth on overwhelming I did it with an old save. I could have won, but I started with such a huge handicap having to be lucky and get magic traits on characters that aren't magic oriented, I just couldnt bring myself to try and beat Everthink.
Magic will allow you to farm quicker, spare units and money, beat stronger stacks, etc.

One last tip : abuse save-scumming... although it takes away from the fun.
Good luck

Good tips.
Spells are extremely strong in the campaign, especially against non-Wielder enemies.
It allows you, early on, to rapidly expand around the map without much of an army.

Thank you for these tips. I think my issue with the game and campaign is how often it "surprises" you with a stupid strong wielder one turn away from a settlement. You have to constantly reload and adjust your strategy because the computer just throws massive armies at you with absolutely no warning or time to prepare. To be clear, these are armies that are spawning within field of vision, I wouldn't mind it so much if I could see them marching and had time to adjust.

I just picked it back up after buying it when it first came out and I'm quickly remembering why I put it down. Those mechanics are super frustrating!

I have not been prioritizing magic, so I greatly appreciate the tips here. Additionally, not killing enemy mobs that block chokepoints is another good tip. Does this mean I can essentially turtle and those armies won't 'spawn'?

I'll take a deep breath and try again.
