In general random maps should have more than generated as you can get unlucky and get locked away from something, but imho SoC went overboard with generation.
Thank you for your feedback. It sounds like you are playing on the PTR. Random map generation has been changed with the goal to make them more similar to the handcrafted Conquest maps. One of the changes was to make them more rich in xp entities.
A level 6 hero in 10 turns without any battle doesn't sound like a common scenario but random maps always have the random chance of generating uncommmoness. Do you remember what random map layout you played at?
That's right, I'm playing on the PTR. I chose an 8-player map with a random city layout. I'll add that there were still plenty of unprotected treasures and collection spots available, but I stopped that game because I felt it didn't make sense to keep leveling up my hero, city, and units without any battles.
